Effects of Conventional Non-Biodegradable Film-Derived Microplastics and New Biodegradable Film-Derived Microplastics on Soil Properties and Microorganisms after Entering Sub-Surface Soil

open access: yesAgronomy
Plastic film mulching, widely used in agriculture, leads to microplastic (MP) pollution in soils. While biodegradable polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) films may offer a solution, their impacts on subsurface soils and microorganisms remain ...

A Reliable Methodology to Determine Biotransformation of Pbat in Anaerobic Conditions

open access: yesBioresource Technology
Biodegradable plastics can enhance food waste utilization in anaerobic digestion (AD) units, but their fate under thermophilic conditions remains unclear. Previous studies using methane production, calorimetry, or spectroscopic analyses often report inconsistent results.

Recyclability of PLA and PLA-PBAT Compounds

open access: yesPeriodica Polytechnica Mechanical Engineering
In this study, mechanical recycling of polylactic acid (PLA) was investigated for up to 10 cycles. As expected, PLAs mechanical properties (tensile strength and modulus, charpy impact strength, heat deflection temperature) decreased after multiple rounds of recycling.

Influence of Vinyl Acetate-Based and Epoxy-Based Compatibilizers on the Design of TPS/PBAT and TPS/PBAT/PBSA Films

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The study investigated the effect of Vinnex® (vinyl acetate polymer) and Joncryl® (epoxy-based copolymer) as compatibilizers on the mechanical properties of thermoplastic starch (TPS) and polybutylene adipate-co-terephthalate (PBAT) and polybutylene succinate-co-adipate (PBSA) films.

Thermo stabilisation of poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate)

open access: yesPolímeros
Poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) - PBAT is a synthetic biodegradable polymer commonly used for plastic film production from neat polymer or nanocomposites. The PBAT is submitted to high temperatures and shear rate during its processing.

Preparation and Mechanical Properties of Pbat/Silanized Cellulose Composites

open access: yesProcesses
To obtain a cost-effective and high-performance composite material of polybutylene adipate-terephthalate (PBAT), for this study we selected microcrystalline cellulose, which is inexpensive and easily available, as the reinforcing medium. Hexadecyl trimethoxysilane (HDTMS) containing a long carbon chain was chosen to silanize the microcrystalline ...

Adhesive Properties of Eco‐Friendly Hot Melt Adhesive Based on Poly(butylene adipate‐co‐terephthalate) and Rosin Maleic Resin

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering
As environmental problems increase, disposable products are being replaced and recommended with materials with a low environmental load when it discarded. So the demand for bioplastics for building a sustainable society is increasing.

Effect of Multiyear Biodegradable Plastic Mulch on Soil Microbial Community, Assembly, and Functioning

open access: yesMicroorganisms
The increasing use of biodegradable plastic mulch like polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) has raised concerns about its long-term environmental impact. In this study, we investigated the effects of multiyear PBAT mulch application on bacterial and

Effect of Thermoplastic Starch Content on the Properties of Poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) Composites

open access: yesBioResources
Thermoplastic starch (TPS) was evaluated as a filler in a poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) matrix. The effect of different levels of TPS (0%, 10%, 30%, 50%) on the composite was studied.
