Enzymatic degradation of pea fibers changes pea protein concentrate functionality

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science
Pea proteins are gaining increased interest from both the food industry as well as from consumers. Pea protein isolates (PPI) excel at forming meat-like textures upon heating while pea protein concentrates (PPC) are more challenging to transform into highly sought-after foods.

Protein import into isolated pea root leucoplasts [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Leucoplasts are important organelles for the synthesis and storage of starch, lipids and proteins. However, molecular mechanism of protein import into leucoplasts and how it differs from that of import into chloroplasts remain unknown. We used pea seedlings for both chloroplast and leucoplast isolations to compare within the same species.

Do's and Don'ts When Visiting Circularly Polarized Luminescence

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective presents our insights into the principles, challenges, and opportunities of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). Highlighting key concepts such as the dissymmetry factor (glum) and molecular design strategies, we discuss advances in CPL efficiency, emerging NIR emitters, solid‐state applications, and the growing role of theory and ...

Intracellular Distribution of Proteins in Pea Cotyledons [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1963
As a part of a study of organ and cellular senescence in plants, we are delineating the structural and functional changes which occur in the cotyledons of germinating peas. As might have been expected from earlier reports that cotyledon cells are capable of performing oxidative phosphorylation, incorporation of labeled amino acids into protein (4) and ...

A Novel Function of Nonadecanoic Acid in Regulating Glucose Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies the odd‐chain fatty acid C19:0 as an endogenous ligand of GPR120 that promotes glucose homeostasis via Gαq signaling. In obesity, elevated palmitic acid suppresses endogenous C19:0 production through a miRNA–PPARα–HACL1 pathway, offering a promising direction for understanding the role of OCFAs in human health.

Modulating Integrin and Growth Factor Signaling With Peptides: Strategies to Synergistically Enhance Bone Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
It has been demonstrated that, in the bone extracellular matrix (ECM), integrins and growth factor receptors (GFRs) engage in synergistic signaling to guide bone healing and regeneration. This review provides a comprehensive overview of current strategies using ECM‐derived peptides to recreate the cellular microenvironment and harness synergistic ...
