Effects of bioinsecticide exposure route on aphids and their natural enemies in oilseed rape

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Fatty acids, silicone polymers and surfactants reduced aphid numbers but caused natural enemy mortality under direct exposure, while minimal residual activity suggests potential for targeted, compatible use in integrated pest management. Abstract BACKGROUND Myzus persicae Sulzer and Brevicoryne brassicae L.

PEACH PRICES IN CALIFORNIA IN THE PRESENCE OF TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE IN THE AGRICULTURAL PESTICIDE INDUSTRY [PDF]

open access: yes
The potentially adverse effects of pesticides in wide use are causing concern to grow in the agricultural community. Minimizing the risks to human health and the environment created by agricultural pesticides has become a very important issue. The United

Renormalized Energy and Peach-K\"ohler Forces for Screw Dislocations with Antiplane Shear [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present a variational framework for studying screw dislocations subject to antiplane shear. Using a classical model developed by Cermelli and Gurtin, methods of Calculus of Variations are exploited to prove existence of solutions, and to derive a ...

Larval antibiosis to cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) is absent within oilseed rape (Brassica napus)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
We screened a panel of 98 Brassicaceae genotypes (97 Brassica napus and 1 Sinapis alba) for cabbage stem flea beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala) larval antibiosis. We found limited evidence for antibiosis across B. napus but consistent antibiosis in S. alba. Brassicaceae relatives may therefore better inform resistance traits for breeding.

Testing optimal defense theory: Root resistance selection in chicory (Cichorium intybus) reduces foliar defense and alters aphid performance and feeding behavior

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Root‐focused resistance in chicory reduces defenses in leaves, impairing root aphids but enhancing foliar aphid performance. Selecting root resistance can create unintended trade‐offs across plant organs. Abstract BACKGROUND Plants are constantly exposed to a wide range of herbivores at both aboveground (AG) and belowground (BG) levels, involving ...

Single and dual RPA‐CRISPR/Cas assays for point‐of‐need detection of Stewart's wilt pathogen (Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii) of corn and Maize dwarf mosaic virus

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1988-1999, April 2025.
Schematic diagram of the single and dual RPA‐CRISPR/Cas12a/13a diagnostic assays for the detection of Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii and Maize dwarf mosaic virus. The validated assays provide a useful and sensitive molecular tool for detecting two quarantine pathogens of maize within a minimal resource framework suitable for fast‐tracking the ...

The continuing significance of chiral agrochemicals

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1697-1716, April 2025.
In the time frame 2018–2023, around 43% of the 35 chiral agrochemicals introduced to the market (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, acaricides, and nematicides) contain one or more stereogenic centers in the molecule, and almost 69% of them have been marketed as racemic mixtures of enantiomers or stereoisomers.

Virtues and Exchange: A Biblical Reframing of Adam Smith’s Vision of Marketplace Ethics

open access: yes, 2017
