Highly expressed EGFR in pearl sac may facilitate the pearl formation in the pearl oyster, Pinctada fucata

Gene, 2015
Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays an important role in cell growth, proliferation, differentiation and migration. Yet whether it functions in pearl formation or not is not reported. In this study, EGFR was cloned from the pearl oyster Pinctada fucata (named as Pf-EGFR) and its expression profiles were investigated.

The Monte Carlo simulation of pearl chain formation

Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 1987
The phenomenon of pearl chain formation (PCF) is investigated by means of a statistical model using the Monte Carlo method. Fifteen particles (cells) interacting with simple dipole-dipole potential are shown to form chains under the influence of an external field with a threshold potential significantly lower than the two particle estimate.

Pearl Chain Formation of Nanoparticles in Microelectrode Gaps by Dielectrophoresis

Langmuir, 2004
The integration of molecular structures into microscopic electrode arrays is achieved by dielectrophoresis of gold nanoparticles in electrode gaps. Using microelectrodes realized by photolithography, we demonstrate here the generation of pearl chain arrangements of nanoparticles in structures accessible for standard technologies.

Pearl Chain Formation across Radio Frequency Fields

Nature, 1970
THAT chains of living or non-living particles (pearl chains) form along the lines of force of electromagnetic fields has been known for many years1–3, and detailed experimental and theoretical analyses of the phenomenon have been carried out2,4.

The Mining of Pearl Formation Genes in Pearl Oyster Pinctada fucata by cDNA Suppression Subtractive Hybridization

Marine Biotechnology, 2011
Recent researches revealed the regional preference of biomineralization gene transcription in the pearl oyster Pinctada fucata: it transcribed mainly the genes responsible for nacre secretion in mantle pallial, whereas the ones regulating calcite shells expressed in mantle edge.

Prodigious Pearls: an extreme incidence of pearl formation in the ribbed mussel

All calcareous molluscs are capable of producing pearls in response to an irritant, and the literature abounds with records of pearls in numerous taxa. Here, we report on the first-known documented case of pearls in the ribbed mussel, Geukensia demissa, as well as the highest density (#/individual) of pearls reported in any bivalve.

New constraints on theories of Pc1 pearl formation

Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1999
In this paper we study structured Pc1 pulsations (also called Pc1 pearls) observed on ground, concentrating on the relation between the pearl repetition period τ and the wave frequency f. Earlier studies suggest that the product τ f is roughly constant. We reexamine this relation and show that a simple inverse law is excluded. Instead, our observations

Formation of aluminium pearls on the surface of SAP alloys

Journal of Materials Science, 1970
An abnormal phenomenon of aluminium “pearl”-formation at the surface of Al-Al2O3 alloys was observed occasionally in quite different experimental conditions. In order to obtain more information, a series of hot-hardness and hot-compression tests was performed on SAP specimens.
