Effect of dehulling, fermentation, and roasting on the nutrient and anti-nutrient content of sorghum and pearl millet flour

open access: yesInternational Journal on Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources
Sorghum and pearl millet contain anti-nutritional factors such as tannins and phytic acid, which limits their use in processed food products.  Pre-treatment processes of these traditional grains such as dehulling, roasting, and fermentation, have ...

Induction of Synthetic Apomixis in Two Sorghum Hybrids Enables Seed Yield and Genotype Preservation Over Multiple Generations

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 3, Page 1712-1724, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Induction of apomixis, or clonal reproduction through seed, could economise commercial hybrid seed production and enable smallholder farmers to save and sow hybrid seed. Here, we demonstrate the synthetic induction of apomixis in two sorghum hybrids and show that the clonal hybrid seed can be maintained across multiple seed generations.

Large Variations in the Transpiration of Sorghum Canopies Under High Evaporative Demand Are Positively Related to Water Use Efficiency

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 1544-1560, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Transpiration restriction under high vapour pressure deficit (VPD), measured indoors with individual plants, increases water use efficiency (WUE). However, VPD is not the only factor driving transpiration, individual plants in a field rapidly become a canopy, and reports on the transpiration restriction versus WUE are scant.
