Cytogenetics of pearl millet

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1982
The somatic karyotype of pearl millet Pennisetum americanum (L.) Leeke. (2n = 14) has been studied in several cultivars, but few cytological markers have been discovered which could help in the easy identification of the chromosomes. Analysis of pachytene bivalents permits such identification but is feasible only in a few cultivars.

Monotelodisomics in pearl millet

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1976
In the progeny of crosses between plants with the chromosome number 2n=13+2 telocentrics as the male parents and the normal diploids of Pennisetum typhoides S. & H., two plants with 2n=13+1 telocentric chromosome were located. These two plants were heterozygous for an interchange, since at diakinesis and metaphase I associations of four chromosomes ...

Aneuploids in Pearl millet

Experientia, 1970
Es wurden von der Nachkommenschaft triploider PerlhirsePennisetum typhoides (2n=14) aneuploide, das heisst einfach-trisome, zweifach-, dreifach- und tetrasome Pflanzen isoliert.

Thermal treatments reduces rancidity and modulates structural and digestive properties of starch in pearl millet flour.

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2021
Pearl millet is a nutrient dense and gluten free cereal, however it's flour remains underutilized due to the onset of rancidity during its storage. To the best of our knowledge, processing methods, which could significantly reduce the rancidity of the ...

Cold Plasma Effects on Changes in Physical, Nutritional, Hydration, and Pasting Properties of Pearl Millet (Pennisetum Glaucum)

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2021
Atmospheric pressure cold plasma treatment on pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) with air as feed gas at an input voltage of 40 and 45 kV for 5, 10, and 15-min exposure time was studied. The influence of cold plasma on the physical, nutritional, hydration,

Amelioration of salt induced toxicity in pearl millet by seed priming with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs): The oxidative damage, antioxidant enzymes and ions uptake are major determinants of salt tolerant capacity.

Plant physiology and biochemistry : PPB, 2020
Abiotic stresses in plants reduce crop growth and productivity. Nanoparticles (NPs) are effectively involved in the physiochemical processes of crop plants, especially under the abiotic stresses; whereas, less information is available regarding the role ...

Characterization of Pearl Millet Prolamins

Protein & Peptide Letters, 2002
We report the physical-chemical characterization of the major alcohol-soluble proteins present in seeds of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) by SDS-PAGE, bidimensional gel electrophoresis, MALDI-TOF/MS and RP-HPLC. We demonstrate the presence of three major prolamins, called A-, B- and C-pennisetin with mass values around 27, 22 and 12 kDa ...

Descriptive sensory analysis of instant porridge from stored wholegrain and decorticated pearl millet flour cooked, stabilized and improved by using a low-cost extruder.

Journal of Food Science, 2021
Pearl millet flour, particularly wholegrain flour, is highly susceptible to development of rancid aromas and flavors during storage. Grain decortication and extrusion cooking using a friction-heated single-screw extruder were investigated as potential ...

Properties of Pearl Millet

Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1997
Abstract Three varieties of pearl millet seed, consisting of two hybrids GHB 30 and Bajra 28–15, and one Babapuri (traditional) variety, were graded, dried to 7·4% moisture content dry basis and properties of the major fraction were determined. The average three principal dimensions were 3·12, 1·94 and 1·70 mm for GHB 30, 2·98, 1·86 and 1·82 mm for ...
