Training Graduate Students in Utilization of Analytical Instruments in a Failure Analysis Course [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Department of Engineering Technology at University of North Texas offers a graduate course on failure analysis (MSET 5150) during spring semesters. Partial requirement for the course is for students to submit a term paper based on their collected data ...

Phase Transformation Behavior of Continuously Cooled Fe–C–V–(Mo) Alloys

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Additions of vanadium and molybdenum microalloying are shown to reshape phase transformations in clean low‐carbon steels. By tracking microstructural shifts during continuous cooling, the work uncovers the correlation between transformation kinetics, ferrite morphology, and hardness.

Synchrotron strain scanning for residual stress measurement in cold-drawn steel rods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Cold-drawn steel rods and wires retain significant residual stresses as a consequence of the manufacturing process. These residual stresses are known to be detrimental for the mechanical properties of the wires and their durability in aggressive ...

Microstructure Characterization of Bending Effects in 304L Stainless Steel Cladded with Low‐Alloy Steel Weld

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Prebending of 304L/Q345R cladded plates significantly alters the subsequent weld thermal cycle and modifies the local interfacial microstructure. Combined electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and microscopy analysis demonstrates that deformation twinning, martensitic transformation, and defect initiation are concentrated at the trimaterial junction,

Influence of Tramp Elements on Phase Transformations, Structure, and Properties of Scrap‐Based Steels: A Focused Review of Recent Developments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This review explains how impurities from recycled scrap affect steel production and performance. Even small amounts (far below 1%) of these impurities can change how steel behaves during fabrication but also affect the properties of the end product. With better understanding and targeted countermeasures, these challenges can be managed, enabling wider ...

EFFECT OF ALLOYING ON TEMPERATURE OF TRANSFORMATION «PEARLITE – AUSTENITE» IN COMPLEX-ALLOYED WHITE CAST IRONS

open access: yesNauka ta progres transportu, 2014
Purpose. Pearlite is not accepted in the microstructure of wear resistant steels and cast irons. To prevent the pearlite by means of appropriate selection of mode of quenching requires the knowledge of the temperature of the critical points Ac1 and Ac3 ...

The combined effect of chemical composition and cooling rate on transformation temperatures of hypoeutectoid steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The transformation temperatures A(r3) and A(r1) of four unalloyed hypoeutectoid steels with a carbon content of 0.029-0,73 % were determined using dilatometric tests.

Medium‐Cycle Fatigue Behavior of Three Metallic Materials and a Welded Steel Following Gaseous Hydrogen Soaking

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 49, Issue 6, Page 2395-2410, June 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the impact of hydrogen soaking on the medium‐cycle fatigue behavior of various metallic materials commonly used in gas transmission pipelines. The tested materials include ex‐service gray cast iron, ex‐service X52 carbon steel, brass, and welded X52 carbon steel.

Determination of the critical points in solid-state phase transformation of some hypoeutectoid steels [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
This study allowed, by dilatometric analyses, both to highlight the solid state transformations that occurred during the continuous heating of two hypoeutectoid steels, as well as to investigate the effect of the heating rate on the critical points at ...

Divorced pearlite in steels [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2012
Steels containing large carbon concentrations are used particularly when a high hardness is required, for example, in the manufacture of components such as bearings. This, however, makes it difficult to shape or machine the alloys during the process of component manufacture unless they are first heat-treated into a softened condition.
