GPNMB immunohistochemistry is a useful ancillary tool for the diagnosis of pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 88, Issue 3, Page 698-709, February 2026.
We evaluated the diagnostic utility of GPNMB immunohistochemistry in LAM. GPNMB showed strong expression in LAM cells, while the differential diagnostic mimics showed no or only low expression. Based on its 100% sensitivity and specificity in our cohort, GPNMB is a highly reliable immunohistochemical marker for the diagnosis of LAM.

Malignant PEComa: a case report with emphasis on clinical and morphological criteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Malignant perivascular epitheliod cell tumor (PEComa) is a very rare entity composed of distinctive perivascular epitheliod cells with variable immunoreactivity for melanocytic and muscle markers. At present this neoplasm does not have a known

Case report: Liver PEComa after kidney transplantation in recipient with tuberous sclerosis complex

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
IntroductionPerivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComa) are rare tumors of mesenchymal origin that exhibit perivascular epithelioid cell phenotype. One of its most common localizations is uterus, whereas only a few studies reported PEComa localization ...

TFE3‐Rearranged PEComa(‐Like Neoplasm) of the Chest Wall Diagnosed by Fine‐Needle Aspiration: A Case Report

open access: yesDiagnostic Cytopathology, Volume 54, Issue 1, Page E1-E5, January 2026.
ABSTRACT We report a rare TFE3‐rearranged perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) of the parasternal chest wall diagnosed preoperatively by fine‐needle aspiration (FNA) cytology. The smears and cell block showed epithelioid cells with clear to granular cytoplasm and prominent nucleoli.

Recent developments in eosinophilic renal neoplasms: what's new, true and important?

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 88, Issue 1, Page 166-192, January 2026.
Recent developments and acquired knowledge on newer renal entities with eosinophilic cytoplasm opened insights into the clinical, pathological, immunohistochemical, molecular, epidemiological aspects, and the prognosis of these entities. We emphasize the role of routine morphology, aided by appropriate and select immunohistochemistry, as essential keys

Epithelioid PEComa coexisting with angiomyolipoma in the kidney

open access: yes
Renal epithelioid perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are rare neoplasms with potential for aggressive clinical behaviour that present a significant diagnostic challenge due to imaging features that overlap with renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
