DNA methylation is a comprehensive marker for pediatric adrenocortical tumors
Endocrine-Related Cancer, 2022Children diagnosed with adrenocortical tumors (pACT) have variable outcomes and, to date, the disease lacks robust prognostic biomarkers. The prognostic potential of tumor methylation has been demonstrated in several cancers. We aimed to evaluate the pACT methylation profile and its association with disease presentation and survival.

Pediatric adrenocortical tumor – review and management update
Current Opinion in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Obesity, 2020Purpose of review Adrenocortical tumor (ACT) is a rare disease with an annual worldwide incidence of 0.3–0.38/million children below 15 years old, and Brazilian population presents the highest incidence because of germline mutation in the TP53.

Pediatric Adrenocortical Tumors: Clinicopathological Features—An Update
Journal of Pediatric Biochemistry, 2016Pediatric adrenocortical tumors (ACTs) are rare in children. Most tumors are hormonally active with overproduction of androgens and glucocorticoids, and less frequently mineralocorticoids and estrogens. Patients usually present with clinical signs of virilization or Cushing syndrome, while only a minority of ACTs are incidentally discovered ...

Vitamin D receptor hypermethylation as a biomarker for pediatric adrenocortical tumors
European Journal of Endocrinology, 2022Objective Pediatric adrenocortical tumors (pACT) display complex genomic backgrounds, lacking robust prognostic markers and targeted therapeutic options. Vitamin D3 receptor (VDR) promoter hypermethylation and underexpression were reported in adrenocortical carcinomas from adult patients.

Adrenocortical insufficiency (AI) is a clinical condition defined by deficient production of glucocorticoids that can result in life-threatening complications. We examined the prevalence of AI in children with brain tumors and those undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation.

Histone mRNA in situ hybridization and Ki 67 immunohistochemistry in pediatric adrenocortical tumors
Virchows Archiv Fur Pathologische Anatomie Und Physiologie Und Fur Klinische Medizin, 2006Adrenocortical tumors in the pediatric population are rare. Classification of these tumors as adenomas or carcinomas using histological criteria is often difficult. Immunohistochemical expressions of proliferative markers are currently under investigation for utilization in the differential diagnosis and prediction of clinical outcomes.

Diagnosis and Prognosis of Pediatric Patients with Adrenocortical Tumors
2013Pediatric adrenocortical tumors (ACTs) only rarely occur in children. Unfortunately their clinical behavior is often unpredictable and their diagnosis (benign versus malignant) is still challenging because the pathological criteria of malignancy used in adults (Weiss system) are not always useful in children.

DAX1 Overexpression in Pediatric Adrenocortical Tumors: A Synergic Role with SF1 in Tumorigenesis
Hormone and Metabolic Research, 2015DAX1 transcription factor is a key determinant of adrenogonadal development, acting as a repressor of SF1 targets in steroidogenesis. It was recently demonstrated that DAX1 regulates pluripotency and differentiation in murine embryonic stem cells. In this study, we investigated DAX1 expression in adrenocortical tumors (ACTs) and correlated it with SF1 ...

Expert Review of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2014
Adrenocortical tumors (ACTs) may be sporadic or related to inherited genetic syndromes. Uncovering the molecular defects underlying these genetic syndromes has revealed key signaling pathways involved in adrenocortical tumorigenesis. Although the understanding of ACT biology has improved, to date, very few potential prognostic molecular markers of ...

The Endocrine Phenotype Induced by Pediatric Adrenocortical Tumors Is Age- and Sex-Dependent
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & MetabolismAbstract Context Adrenocortical carcinomas are very rare malignancies in childhood associated with poor outcome in advanced disease. Most adrenocortical tumors (ACT) are functional, causing signs and symptoms of adrenal hormone excess.
