Background: Two critical mechanisms to measure competency in pediatric orthopaedic surgery are case-based clinical peer review and ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE). However, we currently lack a standard set of triggers or metrics to inform

In Appreciation: A Thank-You to Our Industrious Reviewers
The reputation of the Marshall Journal of Medicine depends on the authors' contribution; however, the standard of the Journal's level of excellence is also a consequence of the efforts of expert peer reviewers.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Towards a Canonical View of Peer Assessment
Peer Assessment (or Peer Review) is a popular form of reciprocal assessment where students produce feedback, or grades, for each others work. Peer Assessment activities can be extremely varied with participants taking different roles at different stages ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Maintaining Live Discussion in Two-Stage Open Peer Review
Open peer review has been proposed for a number of reasons, in particular, for increasing the transparency of the article selection process for a journal, and for obtaining a broader basis for feedback to the authors and for the acceptance decision.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
