ORLAN Revisited: Disembodied Virtual Hybrid Beauty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
I argued in 2000 that the French artist ORLAN may have moved away from her Reincarnation performances toward her Self-Hybridizations because she thought that in the latter she would be more transparently obvious in meaning and less frequently ...

Large Peg-Army Maneuvers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Despite its long history, the classical game of peg solitaire continues to attract the attention of the scientific community. In this paper, we consider two problems with an algorithmic flavour which are related with this game, namely Solitaire ...

Water-dispersible PEG-curcumin/amine-functionalized covalent organic framework nanocomposites as smart carriers for in vivo drug delivery

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as drug-delivery carriers have been mostly evaluated in vitro due to the lack of COFs nanocarriers that are suitable for in vivo studies.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Exchange rate regimes and global cocoa trade: to float or to peg?

open access: yesCogent Economics & Finance, 2020
The effectiveness of different exchange rate systems continues to attract the attention of many scholars, however, most discussions on exchange rate regimes have focused on how the phenomenon affects economic growth, economic stability, financial crises,

Effect of Additional Polyethylene Glycol and Citric Acid on Characteristics of NiMo/g-Al2O3 Catalyst in Light Cycle Gas Oil Hydrodesulfurisation

open access: yesBulletin of Chemical Reaction Engineering & Catalysis, 2023
Sulfur is an impurity in diesel that causes low product quality and environmental pollution. Therefore, a catalyst is needed in the profound hydrodesulfurization (HDS) reaction to produce diesel fuel with low sulfur content.

Pastiche [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The term "pastiche" originally means a "pasty" or "pie" dish containing several different ingredients. It has come to be used synonymously with a variety of terms whose meanings are rarely fixed with clarity: parody, montage, quotation, allusion, irony ...

Parsing Expression Grammars Made Practical

open access: yes, 2015
Parsing Expression Grammars (PEGs) define languages by specifying recursive-descent parser that recognises them. The PEG formalism exhibits desirable properties, such as closure under composition, built-in disambiguation, unification of syntactic and ...
