Effects of crossbreeding Mexican Pelibuey sheep with Rambouillet and Suffolk on carcass traits
Meat Science, 2005Fifty nine lambs: Pelibuey (P), Suffolk×Pelibuey (SP) and Rambouillet×Pelibuey (RP), were used to evaluate the effect of crossbreeding on carcass characteristics and composition. Following carcass evaluation, muscle, bone, subcutaneous, seam, internal, total fat and other tissues were dissected.

Phenotypic expression of parasite susceptibility to Haemonchus contortus in Pelibuey sheep
Veterinary Parasitology, 2017The objective of this study was to determine if the mean faecal egg count (FEC) from a first experimental Haemonchus contortus infection could be used to classify parasite-naïve Pelibuey hair sheep as parasite-resistant high responders and parasite-susceptible low responders.

Reproductive activity of Pelibuey and Suffolk ewes at 19° north latitude
Animal Reproduction Science, 2007Under photoperiod regulated conditions, some Pelibuey ewes appear to express estrous cycles continuously throughout the year. Ovulatory activity of Suffolk ewes has not being determined at 19 degrees N. The aim of the present study was to describe the annual reproductive cycle of Pelibuey and Suffolk ewes under natural conditions at 19 degrees N.

A field study of reproductive performance and productivity of Pelibuey ewes in Southeastern Mexico
Tropical Animal Health and Production, 2013The objective was to evaluate the reproductive performance and productivity of Pelibuey ewes in two flocks in Southeastern Mexico. Animals grazed on irrigated star grass (Cynodon plectostachyus). In flock 1, lambs grazed with their mothers from 7 to 70 days of age (weaning age), whereas in flock 2, they were confined and offered chopped grass, a ...

Productivity of Pelibuey and Blackbelly ewes in Mexico under extensive management
Small Ruminant Research, 1996Abstract Data of 550 Pelibuey (PB) and 250 Barbados Blackbelly (BB) ewes mated during 1987–1990 were used to determine their productivity and some other economic traits at lambing and weaning. Ewes were grazed on native vegetation and given a grain-based supplement during the dry season (November–May) of each year.

Influence of FecGE mutation on the reproductive variables of Pelibuey ewes in the anestrus period
Tropical Animal Health and Production, 2021The growth and differentiation factor 9 (GDF9) intervenes in the fecundity and prolificacy of the ewe, which are important variables that participate in the reproductive efficiency of a flock. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of FecGE mutation of the gene GDF9 in the natural response of the manifestation to estrus, return to ...

Endocrinology of the Postpartum Period in the Pelibuey Ewe
Journal of Animal Science, 1987The postpartum (PP) period in the Pelibuey ewe was studied. Laparotomies were performed on 14 ewes in the first year at d 10, 20 and 30 PP, and at d 10 and 20 PP in the second year on 17 ewes. Progesterone concentrations were determined in serum taken daily, from 4 to 7 d after parturition until estrus.
