Red blood cells could protect miRNAs from degradation or loss thanks to Argonaute 2 binding

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The present work investigates the presence and the stability of miRNAs into RBCs, both native and engineered. The observed stability is due to the Ago2 bound resulting in minimal RISC. Indeed, if the miRNA‐Ago2 complex is present, miRNAs are protected from release or degradation and they are biologically active. Thus, RBCs can act as miRNA carriers for

Tongue pellet tracking by ultrasound: development of a reverberation pellet

open access: yesJournal of Phonetics, 1985
Abstract: Using a water bath phantom designed to simulate the tongue, various substances were scanned to determine their usefulness as a point marker during ultrasound scanning of the oral cavity. The “comet-tail” reverberation artifact was visible when generated from stainless steel pellets placed at the water–air interface of the phantom.

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.

Preparation of pellets containing highly soluble drug by extrusion/spheronisation and coating with Kollicoat® SR 30D

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2011
The aim of this study was to prepare and evaluate the pellets, containing a highly soluble drug (ascorbic acid), by the extrusion-spheronization process and coated with a release controlling polymer. The coating (undertaken in a fluid bed) was applied to

Dysfunctional tetraspanin 7 (TSP‐7) in Caenorhabditis elegans promotes; increases in average life‐ & health‐span, stress‐induced survival and motility

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The C. elegans tetraspanin‐7 (tsp‐7) is a homologue of human CD63, which is a negative regulator of autophagy. The C. elegans strain, tm5761, has a dysfunctional (knockout) tsp‐7 gene. When compared to the wild‐type strain, the tm5761 strain shows increased: life‐ and health‐span; thermotolerance, and stress‐induced locomotion.

Ultrasound-assisted extraction of itraconazole from pellets: an efficient approach for the recovery of active pharmaceutical compounds from solid dosage forms

open access: yesFrontiers in Analytical Science
IntroductionItraconazole is a widely used broad-spectrum antifungal drug on a global scale. However, its poor water solubility necessitates the development of advanced formulations for its effective use.

A non‐fluorescent immunohistochemistry method for measuring autophagy flux using MAP1LC3/LC3 and SQSTM1 as core markers

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We introduce an immunohistochemistry method to measure autophagy flux, highlighting the active degradation and recycling of cellular waste. This cost‐effective approach uses tissue samples to track key markers like LC3 and SQSTM1, revealing how cells maintain health or respond to diseases such as cancer. It bridges the gap between research and clinical
