Penaeid shrimp aquaculture is impacted by various diseases. However, most published studies on physiological responses to pathogens have focused on the changes in one or two tissues of shrimp infected by a single pathogen, or the effects of two pathogens

Abstract Clear liquid optical chamber baited remote underwater video systems (CLOC‐BRUV) are an effective option for assessing fish assemblages in turbid water, but current designs are limited by their large size and high operational costs. We developed a lightweight CLOC‐BRUV unit and evaluated its performance through proof‐of‐concept trials and field

ABSTRACT This study compared the nutritional composition, fatty acid profile, oxidative stability, and sensory quality of whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) and pink shrimp (Penaeus paulensis) obtained from semi‐intensive, organic, and wild systems. Four groups were evaluated: Semi‐intensive P.

Abstract Commercial oyster farming is a new industry in Texas. Because of this, few guidelines regarding management practices for producers have been established. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different gear types and stocking densities on various oyster production indices.

Abstract Advancing knowledge of the molecular mechanisms governing vitellogenesis and spawning in the black tiger prawn, Penaeus monodon, requires an efficient method for identifying ovarian stages. Several physiological and molecular tools have been employed to define these stages in laboratory studies.

Utility of gillnets for selectively targeting penaeids off Iran
In response to concerns over the mortality of discards and other negative environmental impacts of otter trawling for penaeids, the utility of bottom-set gillnets deployed by artisanal vessels to target Penaeus monodon, Metapenaeus affinis and other ...

Abstract White‐leg disease (WLD) is an emerging condition affecting tropical rock lobster, Panulirus ornatus, larviculture, characterized by whitening of pereiopods and uropods, followed by rapid mortality. Despite its significant impact on aquaculture productivity, the bacterial drivers and environmental sources of WLD are still poorly understood ...

Biochemical characterization of the cyclooxygenase enzyme in penaeid shrimp
Cyclooxygenase (COX) is a two-step enzyme that converts arachidonic acid into prostaglandin H2, a labile intermediate used in the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α). In vertebrates and corals, COX must be N-glycosylated on at least two asparagine residues in the N-(X)-S/T motif to be catalytically active.

Beyond Hard Parts: Metabarcoding Advances Dietary Resolution in Threatened Amazonian Elasmobranchs
ABSTRACT Elasmobranchs are highly vulnerable and are considered one of the most threatened vertebrates worldwide. Insights into diet can improve conservation measures. The bias of traditional morphological methods towards taxa with distinctive hard parts makes metabarcoding analysis a complementary tool to assess diet composition. Here, we analysed the
