Mating behaviour in the penaeid shrimp Penaeus vannamei
Marine Biology, 1988Mating behaviour of Penaeus vannamei was observed during January, 1986. Mating behaviour was divided into four phases: (1) approach, (2) crawling, (3) chasing, and (4) mating. Male mating and spermatophore transfer to the mature female take place at intermolt stage C4. The glutinous spermatophore emitted from the male can be transferred onto the female

Single nucleotide polymorphism associated with disease resistance in Penaeus vannamei
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2020Despite the considerable number of genetic markers published for Penaeus vannamei, the classification of these markers and their standardization in specific databases is still insufficient. As a consequence, access to these markers is difficult, hampering their application in genetic association studies.

Silver nanoparticles induce histopathological alterations in juvenile Penaeus vannamei
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2020The objective of this study was to evaluate the histopathological alterations in juvenile Penaeus vannamei caused by silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) for two types of experiments: at sublethal concentrations of 3.6 to 7.1 μg/μL of metallic silver (Ag) for a short period up to 72 h and for 2.6 to 7.9 μg of Ag/μL for the long period up to 264 h. The severity

Effect of Schizothrix calcicola on white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Penaeus vannamei) postlarvae
Aquaculture, 2003The noxious effect of Schizothrix calcicola strain UTEX B-1936 to white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Penaeus vannamei) postlarvae is reported. The larvae exposed to this cyanobacterium during a 15-day long experiment grew smaller and weighed less (R 2 =0.6704) than unexposed organisms (R 2 =0.9049).

Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) is a significant pathogen affecting penaeid shrimp, particularly farmed whiteleg shrimp Penaeus vannamei, causing hepatopancreatic microsporidiosis (HPM). Although initially reported in tiger shrimp P. monodon, limited data exists on its current impact and pathogenic potential of EHP infection in tiger shrimp due to ...

Histopathology of aflatoxicosis in the marine shrimp Penaeus stylirostris and P. vannamei
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1982Abstract The acute and subacute toxicity of aflatoxin B1 to the marine shrimp Penaeus stylirostris and P. vannamei (Order: Decapoda, Class: Crustacea) was investigated. Experimental shrimp were exposed to a range of concentrations of the toxin directly by intramascular injection (from 2 to 160 μg aflatoxin B1/g body weight), or by multiple per os ...

Penaeus vannamei protease activating mechanism of sulfhydryl reducing compounds
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2018For the very first time, protease enzyme from Penaeus vannamei was investigated for its activation with thiol reductant compounds. The mechanism by which sulfhydryl reductant compounds enhances the activity of P. vannamei protease still remains unclear. In this study, it was discovered that thiol-reactive compounds increase P.

Metabolic responses of the white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei, to ambient ammonia
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2000Juvenile shrimp were individually exposed during 24 h to 0.007 (control), 0.36, 1.07, and 2.14 mmol/l total ammonia-N at 28 degrees C and 39 ppt salinity. After 22 h of ammonia-N exposure, oxygen consumption was measured for 2 h, and then hemolymph, hepatopancreas, and muscle tissues were sampled.

Characteristics and functional analysis of a novel mannose receptor in Penaeus vannamei
Fish & Shellfish ImmunologyThe mannose receptor (MR) plays a key role in the innate immune system as a pattern recognition receptor. Here, a novel type of mannose receptor, named PvMR2, was identified from Penaeus vannamei (P. vannamei). The PvMR2 coding sequence (CDS) obtained was 988 base pairs in length, encoding a protein consisting of 328 amino acids.

[Effects of probiotics on Penaeus vannamei pond sediments].
Ying yong sheng tai xue bao = The journal of applied ecology, 2007This paper studied the effects of probiotics on the sediment of Penaeus vannamei pond during 117 days of culture period. The results showed that probiotics application significantly decreased the concentrations of total nitrogen, total phosphorous, and sulfide in sediment, but no significant difference was observed in total plate count (TPC) of ...
