From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Classes and Prediction of Cell-Penetrating Peptides

open access: yes, 2010
The classical view on how peptides enter cells has been changed due to the development in the research field of cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs). During the last 15 years, more than 100 peptide sequences have been published to enter cells and also to ...

The relationship between brain computed tomography scan findings and prognosis in patients with missile-penetrating head injuries

open access: yesMedical Journal of Babylon, 2022
Background: Missile-penetrating head injury is a challenging problem for treating physicians. In Iraq and during 2003–2007, there was a civil war, which led to multiple causalities after suicide bombings or other clashes with coalition forces.

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Prediction of Cell-Penetrating Peptides

open access: yes, 2015
The in silico methods for the prediction of the cell-penetrating peptides are reviewed. Those include the multivariate statistical methods, machine-learning methods such as the artificial neural networks and support vector machines, and molecular ...

Patterns of ocular trauma among the elderly in a South-American urban area and the association between eye traumas with sleep disorders

open access: yesJournal of Emergencies, Trauma and Shock, 2017
Aims: Eye trauma in the older population can lead to blindness. Sleep deterioration is associated with increased risk of occupational injuries. The purpose of the study was to assess the epidemiology of ocular trauma in the elderly population and to ...

Penetrating buttock trauma: A life‐threatening injury that highlights the importance of good collaboration with trauma receiving hospitals

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2022
A 54‐year‐old lady was brought to our emergency department after falling from a stepladder onto the base of her artificial Christmas tree. The metallic rod impaled her through the right buttock.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Delayed diagnosis of traumatic ventricular septal perforation in penetrating chest injury: hematoma formation in the ventricular septum in CT suggests perforation

open access: yesAcute Medicine & Surgery, 2019
Background Ventricular septal perforation (VSP) can be caused by a penetrating cardiac injury. Diagnosis of VSP tends to be delayed because a shunt might not be detected by color flow Doppler at an early stage following injury.
