Progress was satisfactory until they were about 1 in. long (8 weeks), when considerable numbers died suddenly, suggesting an epidemic infection. There is need for an acid‐stable, highly absorbable, penicillinase‐resistant, broad‐spectrum penicillin. Progress, so far, has been exciting and most promising. Many agents are now heing studied, and many more will soon be available.
