Developments in diagnostics and antibiotic resistance of coagulase positive, maltose negative staphylococci from milk of dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In South Africa, as is done with routine Veterinary diagnostics worldwide, focus is on a fast turnaround time and relatively low cost. Staphylococci are identified using the coagulase test (Staphylase test, Oxoid). In more recent years, further diagnosis

Serum penicillin levels in Indian children and adolescents with rheumatic heart disease receiving benzathine penicillin G prophylaxis

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology
Background: Acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) are serious complications of untreated Group A Streptococcal infections. Given that India bears the highest global burden of RHD, optimizing secondary prophylaxis is a public health ...

Cocirculation of Hajj and non-Hajj strains among serogroup W meningococci in Italy, 2000 to 2016 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In Italy, B and C are the predominant serogroups among meningococci causing invasive diseases. Nevertheless, in the period from 2013 to 2016, an increase in serogroup W Neisseria meningitidis (MenW) was observed.

A spheroid toxicity assay using magnetic 3D bioprinting and real-time mobile device-based imaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An ongoing challenge in biomedical research is the search for simple, yet robust assays using 3D cell cultures for toxicity screening. This study addresses that challenge with a novel spheroid assay, wherein spheroids, formed by magnetic 3D bioprinting ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Degradation of Penicillin G contaminant in synthesized wastewater by Fenton-like reaction

open access: yesEngineering and Applied Science Research, 2022
The aim of this research was to investigate the degradation of Penicillin G (PEN G) in synthesized wastewater via a Fenton-like reaction. Calcium dioxide (CaO2) was used as an oxidant in the Fenton-like reaction.

THE INFLUENCE OF LEVETIRACTEAM AND DIAZEPAM ON PENICILLIN-INDUCED FOCAL EPILEPTIC ACTIVITY

open access: yesZaporožskij Medicinskij Žurnal, 2014
Aim. The power of epileptic foci and their life-span in Wistar rats (44 animals) were investigated under conditions of levetiracetam (30,0 and 130,0 mg/kg, i.p.) and diazepam (0,5 and 1,5 mg/kg, i.p.) treatment in acute experiments.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.
