Spectroscopic Investigations of Pentobarbital Interaction with Transthyretin

open access: yesJournal of Spectroscopy, 2013
Transthyretin (TTR) aggregation has been characterized to be responsible for several amyloid diseases. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, fluorescence, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) are used to investigate secondary structure changes in ...

Spike timing rigidity is maintained in bursting neurons under pentobarbital-induced anesthetic conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Neural Circuits, 2016
Pentobarbital potentiates γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-mediated inhibitory synaptic transmission by prolonging the open time of GABAA receptors. However, it is unknown how pentobarbital regulates cortical neuronal activities via local circuits in vivo.

Mesoporous Fe3O4 Nanoparticles Loaded with IR‐820 for Antibacterial Activity via Magnetic Hyperthermia Combined with Photodynamic Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study addresses bacterial biofilm resistance by developing mesoporous Fe3O4 nanoparticles loaded with photosensitizer IR‐820, enabling combined antimicrobial photodynamic therapyand magnetic hyperthermia therapy. The system achieves magnetic targeting, heat‐triggered drug release under alternating magnetic fields, and near‐infrared‐induced ROS ...

Technical aspects of an impact acceleration traumatic brain injury rat model with potential suitability for both microdialysis and PtiO2 monitoring

open access: yes, 2007
This report describes technical adaptations of a traumatic brain injury (TBI) model-largely inspired by Marmarou-in order to monitor microdialysis data and PtiO2 (brain tissue oxygen) before, during and after injury. We particularly focalize on our model

Interleukin-18 mediates cardiac dysfunction induced by western diet independent of obesity and hyperglycemia in the mouse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Obesity and diabetes are independent risk factors for heart failure and are associated with the consumption of diet rich in saturated fat and sugar, Western diet (WD), known to induce cardiac dysfunction in the mouse through incompletely characterized ...

Pentobarbital-Induced Myocardial Stunning in Status Epilepticus Requiring Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesCase Reports in Critical Care, 2016
Introduction. Mild hypotension is a well-recognized complication of intravenous pentobarbital; however fulminant cardiopulmonary failure has not been previously reported. Case Report.

Effects of anesthetics on the renal sympathetic response to anaphylactic hypotension in rats. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The autonomic nervous system plays an important role in rat anaphylactic hypotension. It is well known that sympathetic nerve activity and cardiovascular function are affected by anesthetics.

Antinociceptive activity of Thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) and interactions with neurotropics and analgesics

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2021
The plant world represents an important source of potential therapeutic agents, but concomitant administration of herbal and conventional medications may result in interactions with subsequent beneficial or adverse effects.

Cardiac Organoid Model Inspired Micro‐Robot Smart Patch to Treat Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The heart organoid model exhibits the acidic microenvironment characteristic of myocardial infarction, which emerges as a pivotal force propelling the movement of micro‐robots. These micro‐robots, administered through microneedles, can penetrate deep into the tissue, effectively delivering therapeutic payloads to facilitate heart repair.

Pentobarbital versus thiopental in the treatment of refractory intracranial hypertension in patients with traumatic brain injury: a randomized controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Introduction: Experimental research has demonstrated that the level of neuroprotection conferred by the various barbiturates is not equal. Until now no controlled studies have been conducted to compare their effectiveness, even though the Brain Trauma ...
