GROWTH AND ESSENTIAL OIL PRODUCTION IN PEPPERMINT ACCESSIONS
Acta Horticulturae, 2010In a study to develop salt tolerant peppermint (Mentha × piperita L.) for growth in arid regions where intensive irrigation has led to salinized soils, the variability in growth and essential oil of accessions was evaluated as a preliminary selection method for peppermint types that could be expected to produce high levels of essential oil rich in ...

Genetic engineering of peppermint for improved essential oil composition and yield
Transgenic Research, 2005The biochemistry, organization, and regulation of essential oil metabolism in the epidermal oil glands of peppermint have been defined, and most of the genes encoding enzymes of the eight-step pathway to the principal monoterpene component (-)-menthol have been isolated. Using these tools for pathway engineering, two genes and two expression strategies

Essential oil yield in peppermint/soybean strip intercropping
Field Crops Research, 2003In the search for sustainable agricultural methods for industrial crops, peppermint (Menthapiperita) was strip intercropped with soybean (Glycine max). Intercropping peppermint with soybean resulted in yield and quality increases in the essential oil, compared to sole peppermint cultivation. The yield was higher by about 50% on an equal land area basis

Peppermint essential oil in cosmetology and aromatherapy
Aesthetic Cosmetology and MedicinePeppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita L.) is one of the most commonly used natural raw materials. Both the oil and its main isolate, menthol, have distinct biological properties. This study aimed to identify the potential of application of peppermint essential oil and menthol in cosmetic products and aromatherapy treatments.

Peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita L.) increases time to exhaustion in runners
European Journal of Nutrition, 2023This study aimed to evaluate the capacity of peppermint essential oil to improve the physical performance of runners in running protocol until exhaustion. In a clinical, randomized, double-blind, cross-over and controlled study, fourteen male recreational runners (37.1 ± 2.0 years; 24 ± 1.1 kg/m2; 53.1 ± 1.7 mL kg min) performed two runs to exhaustion ...

Effects of osmotic stress on the essential oil content and composition of peppermint
Phytochemistry, 1990Abstract The essential oil content and composition of hydroponically-grown peppermint ( Mentha x piperita L.) plants (29- and 36-day-old cuttings) were each affected by growth solution potential (ψ s ) and duration of exposure to mild and moderate osmotic stress.

Effect of harvest date on the yield and quality of the essential oil of peppermint
Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 1993A field experiment was conducted from 1989 to 1991 on a Fox loamy sand soil to study the effects of harvest date on selected agronomic, physical and chemical characteristics of peppermint (Mentha piperita L.). Plant biomass and essential oil yields increased throughout the season to a maximum in very late August to early September. Menthol, neomenthol,

Variability of content and composition of essential oil in different genotypes of peppermint
Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, 1987Abstract The content and composition of essential oil of ten peppermint genotypes were analyzed over three years. The parameters varied both in relation to year of investigation and the genotypes examined. Genotypes showed a specific response to environmental conditions.
