Investigating antimicrobial resistance mechanisms in Neisseria gonorrhoeae using peptide probes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The continuing evolution of antibiotic resistance strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae coupled with the paucity of new antimicrobial agents makes the treatment of gonococcal infections challenging. A major cause of resistance is the expression of a multidrug

The TaRNS4–TaPP2C10 module regulates wheat resistance to stripe rust through RNA degradation and MAPK cascades

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
In wheat, phosphorylation of the S‐like RNase TaRNS4 mediated by the kinase TaRLK5 promotes its degradation of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici RNA in the apoplast, enhancing resistance to stripe rust. TaRNS4 can hijack phosphatase TaPP2C10 to relieve its dephosphorylation of TaMAPK6, thereby activating MAPK‐mediated immune responses. ABSTRACT RNase

Periodontitis and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: Mechanistic Evidence

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This review aims to provide a conceptual framework for understanding the mechanistic interplay between periodontitis and IBD, with a particular emphasis on the microbial and immunological crosstalk linking the oral cavity and the gastrointestinal tract.

Conjugation and Interaction Studies of Thiol Peptide-based Hydrogels and Peptide Nucleic Acids [PDF]

open access: yes
Peptide Nucleic Acids (PNAs) are synthetic analogues of nucleic acids whose backbones consist of N–(2- aminoethyl)glycine repeats, anchored via amidic bonds.

Targeted Modulation of Eukaryotic Release Factor 1 (OseRF1) by an RNA Aptamer Enhances Drought Adaptation in Rice

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drought stress severely restricts rice productivity, necessitating strategies to enhance stress resilience. Here, we identify translation termination as a tunable regulatory node for stress adaptation. Using 25 rounds of SELEX, we isolated RTAR, an RNA aptamer that binds the rice eukaryotic release factor 1 (OseRF1) with nanomolar affinity ...

Comparative flux control through the cytoplasmic phase of cell wall biosynthesis [PDF]

open access: yes
The introduction of antibacterial drugs in the middle of the last century heralded a new era in the treatment of infectious disease. However the parallel emergence of antibiotic resistance and decline in new drug discovery threatens these advances. The

Antibiotic‐mediated immune modulation in periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the supporting structures of the teeth. Although initiated by dysbiotic microbial communities, its progression is largely driven by the host's uncontrolled inflammatory response. While antibiotics have conventionally been employed in periodontitis therapy for their antimicrobial ...

Understanding extracellular vesicles in antiaging

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Aging is a multifactorial process marked by gradual cellular dysregulation, regulated by hallmarks, including genomic instability, mitochondrial dysregulation, and chronic inflammation. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes, have emerged as pivotal mediators of cell‐to‐cell communication with potential roles in both ...

Metabolic reprogramming of the immune response in periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Periodontitis, a highly prevalent chronic inflammatory disease, is characterized by the progressive destruction of the tooth‐supporting tissues, ultimately causing tooth loss. In recent years, the emerging field of immunometabolism has revealed that immune cell function is tightly regulated by intracellular metabolic pathways that ...
