Perceptually Prioritized Bit-Plane Coding for High-Definition Advanced Audio Coding

Eighth IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia (ISM'06), 2006
Wide bitrate range scalability is now the latest trend in audio coding. A lot of efforts has been devoted to the development of algorithms for more efficient scalable audio coder that scales from very low bitrate. Scalable audio coding technique such as MPEG-4 Scalable Lossless coding (SLS) offers a unified solution for high-compression perceptual ...

Perceptual coding of height-quality audio signals

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1994
Perceptual coders promise to deliver true transparent coding. The listener should not be able to hear any difference between original and reconstructed signal. The main elements of perceptual coders are (1) a filterbank to map the time domain input signal to a time- frequency domain representation, (i.e., the masked threshold) and (2) the quantization ...

A computationally efficient cochlear filter bank for perceptual audio coding

2001 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing. Proceedings (Cat. No.01CH37221), 2002
Many applications in auditory modeling require analysis filters that approximate the frequency selectivity given by psychophysical data, e.g., from masking experiments using narrow-band maskers. This frequency selectivity is largely determined by the spectral decomposition process inside the human cochlea.

Transform coding of audio signals using perceptual noise criteria

IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1988
A 4-b/sample transform coder is designed using a psychoacoustically derived noise-making threshold that is based on the short-term spectrum of the signal. The coder has been tested in a formal subjective test involving a wide selection of monophonic audio inputs. The signals used in the test were of 15-kHz bandwidth, sampled at 32 kHz.

Perceptual coding of audio signals

2009
This thesis presents the research work done to improve the implementability of the ISO/MPEG (International Standard Organisation/Moving Picture Experts Group) audio coding algorithm. The main concept behind this audio coding algorithm is the use of a psychoacoustic model as the basis for removing audio signals which are irrelevant to the human ear. The

Objective Quality Assessment of Perceptually Coded Audio Signals

2023
