Smaller is better: nanobodies meet NMR

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nanobodies are single‐domain antigen‐binding fragments derived from camelid heavy chain antibodies. Their small size, high stability, and exceptional specificity make nanobodies uniquely useful probes for NMR studies of protein dynamics, transient conformational states, and protein–protein interactions.

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Passively Harmonic Mode-Locked Fiber Laser With a High Signal-to-Noise Ratio via Evanescent-Light Deposition of Bismuth Telluride $(\hbox{Bi}_{2}\hbox{Te}_{3} )$ Topological Insulator Based Saturable Absorber

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
Passively harmonic mode locking (HML) operation had been demonstrated in an erbium-doped fiber laser with a microfiber-based topological insulator (TI) Bi2Te3 saturable absorber (SA).

Perfect powers in elliptic divisibility sequences [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
It is shown that there are finitely many perfect powers in an elliptic divisibility sequence whose first term is divisible by 2 or 3. For Mordell curves the same conclusion is shown to hold if the first term is greater than 1.

Profiling neoadjuvant therapy response in rectal cancer using meta‐analysis of publicly available transcriptomic RNA‐seq datasets

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates publicly available transcriptomic datasets to identify molecular signatures associated with response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced rectal cancer. By analyzing a combination of multiple cohorts with bioinformatics approaches, we reveal biological pathways and immune‐related features that may improve ...

Sacrificial lambs

open access: yesAnimal Sentience, 2019
Sheep evolved from the mouflon as mountain animals, able to escape predation by leaping between rock ledges. Their defense was their agility. Humans brought them to the plains, where the agility was less useful, but their lack of aggression, speed or ...

Perfect elimination orderings of chordal powers of graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Let G = (V,E) be a finite undirected connected graph. We show that there is a common perfect elimination ordering of all powers of G which represent chordal graphs. Consequently, if G and all of its powers are chordal then all these graphs admit a common
