GEM Detector Performance Assessment in the BM@N Experiment

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
The Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) chambers are developed for modern purposes in the elementary particle physics. In the BM@N experiment, a GEM system is used for the reconstruction of the trajectories of the charged particles.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Characterization of body composition dynamics throughout treatment in patients with early-stage breast cancer

open access: yesnpj Breast Cancer
This study characterized computed tomography (CT)-derived body composition and tissue morphology in females with non-metastatic breast cancer (BC), both cross-sectionally (n = 56) and longitudinally (n = 38), including comparisons with healthy women and ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Experimental Study on Performance of Evaporator with Ice-slurry in Precooling Cold Storage

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2019
A dehumidification evaporator with ice-slurry has been proposed and applied in a small-scale modeling cold storage for the precooling of fruits and vegetables.Performance comparison experiments were conducted by changing the types of fillers, i.e., metal,

Performance of Regression Models as a Function of Experiment Noise

open access: yesBioinformatics and Biology Insights, 2021
Background: A challenge in developing machine learning regression models is that it is difficult to know whether maximal performance has been reached on the test dataset, or whether further model improvement is possible.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Audience Experience In Sound Performance

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents observations from investigating audience experience of apractice-based research in live sound performance with electronics. In seekingto understand the communication flow and the engagement between performer andaudience in this particular performance context, we designed an experiment thatinvolved the following steps: (a) performing

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
