Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

A Software Defined Radio Implementation of Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access with Reliable Decoding via Error Correction

open access: yesFuture Internet
Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been identified as one of the key technologies for 6G capacity and latency gains. However, existing implementation challenges of the NOMA technique, related to carrier, timing, and phase offsets, successive ...

Performance optimization of parallel algorithms

open access: yesJournal of Communications and Networks, 2014
The high intensity of research and modeling in fields of mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry requires new com- puting resources. For the big computational complexity of such tasks computing time is large and costly. The most efficient w ay to increase efficiency is to adopt parallel principles.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Effects of home-based slow-paced breathing on functional performance in middle-aged women: A randomized controlled trial study

open access: yesExperimental Gerontology
As individuals age, functional performance declines, particularly affecting mobility, strength, and postural balance, with middle-aged women experiencing earlier and more pronounced impairments due to menopausal transition.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Chest wall restriction device for modeling respiratory challenges and dysfunction

open access: yesFrontiers in Medical Engineering
Breathing relies on unrestricted movement of the chest wall to maintain O2 and CO2 balance. Understanding the effects of chest and abdominal restrictions on respiratory function is critical for studying conditions such as respiratory diseases, extreme ...
