Acute Effect of Repeated Sprint Exercise With Blood Flow Restriction During Rest Periods on Muscle Oxygenation

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
PurposeThis study aimed to examine the effect of applying BFR during rest periods of repeated cycling sprints on muscle oxygenation.MethodsSeven active males performed 5 × 10-s maximal pedaling efforts with 40-s passive rest, with or without BFR ...

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

Cost-Consequence Analysis of Advanced Imaging in Acute Ischemic Stroke Care

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2021
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to illustrate the potential costs and health consequences of implementing advanced CT angiography and perfusion (CTAP) as the initial imaging in patients presenting with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) symptoms at ...

Time, the final frontier

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This article advocates integrating temporal dynamics into cancer research. Rather than relying on static snapshots, researchers should increasingly consider adopting dynamic methods—such as live imaging, temporal omics, and liquid biopsies—to track how tumors evolve over time.

Stator Dynamics Depending on Sodium Concentration in Sodium-Driven Bacterial Flagellar Motors

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2021
Bacterial flagellar motor (BFM) is a large membrane-spanning molecular rotary machine for swimming motility. Torque is generated by the interaction between the rotor and multiple stator units powered by ion-motive force (IMF).

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

METTL3 knockout accelerates hepatocarcinogenesis via inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum stress response

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Liver‐specific knockout of N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) methyltransferase METTL3 significantly accelerated hepatic tumor initiation under various oncogenic challenges, contrary to the previously reported oncogenic role of METTL3 in liver cancer cell lines or xenograft models. Mechanistically, METTL3 deficiency reduced m6A deposition on Manf transcripts and

Atypical Perfusion Manifestation in Migraine with Aura

open access: yesCase Reports in Neurology, 2021
Migraine with aura may be confused with a stroke. Magnetic resonance imaging is an important tool for the differential diagnosis. Cerebral hypoperfusion has been described in classic migraine, mainly during the aura.

Effective and Safe Use of Glucocorticosteroids for Rescue of Late ARDS

open access: yesCase Reports in Critical Care, 2017
We describe a case of severe refractory hypoxemia requiring prolonged extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support in a case of postpartum acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Dynamic contrast enhanced 1H-magnetic resonance imaging in assessment of skeletal muscle and fibrosarcoma perfusion

open access: yesБіологічні студії, 2020
Background. The detection of neoplastic transformation and prediction of the therapeutic response are very important for effective cancer therapy. Current assessment of tumor treatment efficacy relies on evaluating changes in the tumor size or volume ...
