The prognostic value of tumour budding for survival in stage II and III colorectal cancer: a systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
This meta‐analysis demonstrates that high‐grade tumour budding is an independent prognostic factor in stage II–III colorectal cancer, associated with significantly worse disease‐free survival, overall survival and cancer‐specific survival. Aims Tumour budding (TB) has been recognized as an additional prognostic factor in the TNM (2017) and WHO (2019 ...

Orcein is a more sensitive stain than EVG for detecting large vessel (venous) invasion in colorectal cancer

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
Orcein is more sensitive than EVG for detecting intramural and extramural large vessel (venous) invasion than EVG and H&E in colorectal cancer. Background Large vessel invasion (VI) is a well‐established adverse prognostic factor in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Stroma AReactive Invasion Front Areas (SARIFA) is a negative prognostic factor for overall survival in non‐intestinal gastric adenocarcinomas

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
SARIFA – characterized by direct tumour cell‐adipocyte contact – is a novel histological marker that is easily identifiable on standard haematoxylin–eosin‐stained sections and is associated with aggressive tumour behaviour. SARIFA positivity independently predicts poorer survival outcomes in non‐intestinal gastric cancer and may thus contribute to ...

Tumour deposits are associated with increased metastatic risk in colorectal cancer: a population‐based analysis of metastatic patterns and burden

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
In this population‐based cohort of 3505 patients with colorectal cancer without distant metastases at diagnosis, tumour deposits are independently associated with an increased risk of distant metastases (HR 1.34, 95% CI 1.03–1.74). This finding supports consideration of tumour deposits in future risk stratification strategies.

Management of Non‐Plaque‐Induced Gingival Conditions: A Systematic Review—Part 2: Inflammatory and Immune Conditions; Neoplasms; and Gingival Pigmentation

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims This systematic review assesses current evidence on the management of non‐plaque (dental biofilm)‐induced gingival diseases and conditions (NPIGDs), including (i) inflammatory and immune conditions, (ii) neoplasms and (iii) gingival pigmentations.

Human cerebral arterial morphogenesis explored by 3D microscopic imaging of cleared embryos: Bridging the gap between embryonic and adult anatomy

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We provide a description of human embryonic cerebral arterial development based on whole‐mount immunostaining, tissue clearing, three‐dimensional (3D) light‐sheet microscopy imaging, and anatomically informed virtual segmentation of human embryos. Findings are compared with adult radiological anatomy. We provide a detailed account of the development of
