Structural Analysis of Periodic Trusses and Lattice Materials: States of Self-Stress, Mechanisms, and Mechanical Properties

open access: closedJournal of Applied Mechanics, 2023
Abstract In the realm of low relative density, a rigid-jointed lattice material exhibits a mechanical response analogous to that of a pin-jointed periodic truss with an identical micro-architecture. This correspondence simplifies the evaluation of the lattice's structural performance.

Dynamic Reorientation of Cultured Cells and Stress Fibers under Mechanical Stress from Periodic Stretching

open access: closedExperimental Cell Research, 2001
Cell lines derived from rat aorta and frog kidney were cultured on elastic membrane, and mechanical stress was given to the cells by stretching the membrane periodically. Cell reorientation oblique to the direction of stretching occurred as a result of the rapid withdrawal of cell periphery located along the direction of stretching and gradual ...

The influence of periodic mechanical stresses on the incommensurate phase of quartz

open access: closedPhysica B: Condensed Matter, 1997
Abstract The kinetics of the stress-induced transition from the β- to the incommensurate phase in quartz has been investigated by time-resolved triple-axis spectroscopy. It is shown that the formation of the modulated phase under external load takes a longer time than the removal of the modulation if the stress is released.

On the simultaneous action mechanism of a periodic mechanical stress and an alternative magnetic field in the reversible movement of the bloch wall

open access: closedCzechoslovak Journal of Physics, 1965
The mechanism of the simultaneous action of an alternating magnetic field and periodic mechanical stress during the reversible displacement of a Bloch wall is investigated.

A novel role for integrin‐linked kinase in periodic mechanical stress‐mediated ERK1/2 mitogenic signaling in rat chondrocytes

open access: closedCell Biology International, 2016
AbstractIn recent years, a variety of studies have been performed to investigate the cellular responses of periodic mechanical stress on chondrocytes. Integrin β1‐mediated ERK1/2 activation was proven to be indispensable in periodic mechanical stress‐induced chondrocyte proliferation and matrix synthesis.

Periodic mechanical stress enhances rat chondrocyte area expansion and migration through Src-PLCγ1-ERK1/2 signaling

open access: closedEuropean Journal of Cell Biology, 2010
The signal transduction pathways of chondrocyte area expansion and migration under periodic mechanical stress remain a matter of debate. We explore this question by performing cell culture experiments in our self-developed periodic stress field and perfusion culture system.

Maturation of the adrenocortical stress response: Neuroendocrine control mechanisms and the stress hyporesponsive period

Brain Research Reviews, 1986
During the first two weeks of life rat pups show a markedly reduced adrenocortical response to stress, and this period of adrenocortical quiescence has been termed the 'stress non-responsive period' (SNRP). The adaptive value of the SNRP can be understood in terms of the effects of glucocorticoids on CNS development: excessively high or low corticoid ...
