Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Periodic Solutions Generated by Impulses for State-Dependent Impulsive Differential Equation

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2015
We study the existence of periodic solutions for a class of state-dependent impulsive differential systems via geometrical analysis methods. Our results show that these periodic solutions are generated by impulses.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Periodic solutions of difference equations

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2003
For the difference equation \(x_{n+1}=\beta x_n- g(x_n)\) with \(\beta> 1\) and \(g(x)= \text{sign\,}x\) for \(x\neq 0\), \(g(0)= 1\), it is shown: For any \(m\in \mathbb{N}_0\) it has a \(2^m\)-periodic solution. If \(\beta^{2^m(2k+1)}- 2\beta^{2^m(2k-1)}\geq 1\) for \(k\in \mathbb{N}\) and some \(m\in\mathbb{N}\) it has a \((2k+1)2^m\)-periodic ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Periodic solutions of periodically perturbed planar autonomous systems: A topological approach

open access: yes, 2006
Aim of this paper is to investigate the existence of periodic solutions of a nonlinear planar autonomous system having a limit cycle x_0 of least period T_0>0 when it is perturbed by a small parameter, T_1-periodic, perturbation. In the case when T_0/T_1

Periodic solutions of spatially periodic hamiltonian systems

open access: yesJournal of Differential Equations, 1992
The existence of periodic solutions for Hamiltonian systems of ordinary differential equations (1) \(\dot z=J(H_ z(z,t)+f(t))\) is studied, where \(H: R^{2n}\times R\to R\) is of class \(C^ 1\) and is \(2\pi\)-periodic with respect to \(t\); \(f: R\to R\) is continuous and \(2\pi\)-periodic and \(J=\bigl({0 \atop I_ n} {-I_ n \atop 0}\bigr)\).
