A numerical evaluation of solvers for the periodic Riccati differential equation

open access: yes, 2009
Efficient and accurate structure exploiting numerical methods for solving the periodic Riccati differential equation (PRDE) are addressed. Such methods are essential, for example, to design periodic feedback controllers for periodic control systems ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Tunable periodic microstrip structure on GaAs wafer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A one dimensional tunable periodic structure in microstip technology on gallium arsenide (GaAs) substrate is numerically investigated. The unit cell contains a number of patches positioned between the ground plane and the microstrip line.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Stability of Slightly Wrinkled Plates Interacting with an Elastic Subsoil

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 2015
The first aim of the contribution is to formulate an engineering theory describing the linear stability of periodically waved shallow shell-like structures (slightly wrinkled plates, cf. Fig. 1) interacting with a Winkler foundation.

RETRACTED: Application of periodic structural wave impeding block for vibration isolation in foundation

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2023
The wave impeding board (WIB) is frequently integrated beneath dynamic machinery, tracks, and subgrades to counteract vibrations emanating from artificial sources.

Periodic transonic flow and control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The current understanding of periodic transonic flow is reviewed briefly. The effects of boundary-layer transition, non-adiabatic wall conditions and modifications to the aerofoil surface geometry at the shock interactions on periodic transonic flow are ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A New Approach in Designing Multi-Layer Frequency Selective Surfaces based on Tuning Pole-Zeros of Individual Layers [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Procedures in Electrical Technology, 2015
In this paper, a new approach (not new technique) is introduced for designing frequency selective surfaces (FSSs). We try to compose the desired frequency response using the frequency response of each constituent FSS.

Phononic Band Gap and Free Vibration Analysis of Fluid-Conveying Pipes with Periodically Varying Cross-Section

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Phononic crystals (PCs) are a novel class of artificial periodic structure, and their band gap (BG) attributes provide a new technical approach for vibration reduction in piping systems.
