Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Bandwidth Extension of Ultra-wideband Microstrip Antenna Using Metamaterial Double-side Planar Periodic Geometry [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2019
A compact extended bandwidth UWB microstrip antenna is designed utilizing metamaterial (MTM) double-side planar periodic structures. The proposed antenna comprises two MTM unit cells made by etching X-shaped slots on the main radiating patch, and four ...

On computing inner-outer factorizations of periodic systems

open access: yes, 2013
A numerically reliable state space algorithm is proposed for computing inner-outer factorizations of causal periodic descriptor systems. The main computational ingredients are the computation of a special condensed Kronecker-like form of periodic ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

An overview of recent developments in computational methods for periodic systems

open access: yes, 2007
: At the First IFAC Workshop on Periodic Systems (Como, Italy, 2001), a state of the art survey of computational methods for periodic systems has been presented (Varga and Van Dooren, 2001).

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Near-Field Periodic Subwavelength Holey Metallic Plate for Far-Field Superresolution Focusing

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
Far-field focusing with superresolution aided by a proposed metallic plate is investigated in this paper. The proposed near-field structure can be employed to distinguish point-like sources with subwavelength distance and enhance the field strength based

Laser Direct Writing of Silver Clusters‐Based Subwavelength Periodic Structures Embedded in Mid‐Infrared Gallo‐Germanate Glass

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2022
The direct laser writing (DLW) using femtosecond lasers allows for the inscription of 3D microstructures embedded inside optical materials. Based solely on the silver ions photochemistry, the DLW in silver‐containing glasses enables to locally induce ...

Computation of transfer function matrices of periodic systems

open access: yes, 2002
We present a numerical approach to evaluate the transfer function matrices of a periodic system corresponding to lifted state-space representations as constant systems.
