Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

WAVE PROPAGATION IN TENSEGRITY AND PERIODIC STRUCTURES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This dissertation focuses on the development of the fundamental understanding of the dynamic behavior of assemblies of periodic arrays of tensegrity unit cells (along one and two directions).

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Band gap engineering in simultaneous phononic and photonic crystal slabs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We discuss the simultaneous existence of phononic and photonic band gaps in two types of phononic crystals slabs, namely periodic arrays of nanoholes in a Si membrane and of Si nanodots on a SiO2 membrane. In the former geometry, we investigate in detail

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Optical Density Tuning through Refractive Index Contrast in Periodic and Quasi-Periodic 1D Photonic Crystals

open access: yesJournal of Optoelectronical Nanostructures
This study investigates the optical density (OD) characteristics of one-dimensional photonic crystals (1D PCs) deposited on a polycarbonate substrate, focusing on the comparative performance of periodic and quasi-periodic architectures.

On Forward and Backward Modes in 1D Periodic Bounded Structures

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Microwaves
We discuss the issue of identifying the forward/backward nature of modes in bounded one-dimensional periodic structures. This identification is based on the possibility of adequately and uniquely defining the phase velocity in these types of structure ...

The Surface Plasmon Resonance Effect on the Defect-Mode Cholesteric Liquid Crystals Doped With Gold Nanoparticles

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
Cholesteric liquid crystals exhibit the characteristics of photonic crystals with a photonic bandgap. A defect-mode cholesteric liquid crystal module was assembled in this study, and laser dye and gold nanoparticles are mixed into this module.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in
