PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Numerical simulation of waves in periodic structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this work we improve and extend a technique named recursive doubling proceduredeveloped by Yuan and Lu [J. Lightwave Technology 25 (2007), 3649-3656] for solving periodic array problems.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Modelling Propagating Bloch Waves in Magnetoelectroelastic Phononic Structures with Kagomé Lattice Using the Improved Plane Wave Expansion

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
We studied the dispersion diagram of a 2D magnetoelectroelastic phononic crystal (MPnC) with Kagomé lattice. The MPnC is composed of BaTiO3–CoFe2O4 circular scatterers embedded in a polymeric matrix.

Structure from Periodic Motion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We show how to exploit temporal periodicity of moving objects to perform 3D reconstruction. The collection of period-separated frames serve as a surrogate for multiple rigid views of a particular pose of the moving target, thus allowing the use of standard techniques of multiview geometry.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Pulse Duration Dependent Formation of Laser‐Induced Periodic Surface Structures in Atomic Layer Deposited MoS2

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
In this paper, the formation of laser‐induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) on atomic‐layer deposited MoS2 layers are studied experimentally. The process parameters (laser fluence and the pulse overlap) corresponding to formation of low‐ and high ...

Friction Properties of the DLC Film with Periodic Structures in Nano-scale

open access: yesTribology Online, 2006
Reduction of friction at very low normal loads and for very small contact areas is important for the development of micro devices. High performance hard coatings such as diamond-like carbon (DLC) films and improved surfaces with nanostructures are being ...
