Detection of pathogens from periodontal lesions [PDF]

open access: yesRevista de Saúde Pública, 2004
OBJECTIVE: To comparatively detect A. actinomycetemcomitans and F. nucleatum from periodontal and healthy sites. METHODS: Subgingival clinical samples from 50 periodontitis adult patients and 50 healthy subjects were analyzed. Both organisms were isolated using a trypticase soy agar-bacitracin-vancomycin (TSBV) medium and detected by PCR.

Bacterial Species Associated With Chronic Inflammation and Oral Cancer. A Comparative Study Between Patients With HNC and Patients With Chronic Periodontitis

open access: yesCancer Nexus, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the presence and quantification of selected periodontopathogenic bacterial species and salivary parameters between patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) treated with radiotherapy and patients with chronic periodontitis, using chronic periodontitis as a reference model of oral dysbiosis.

Cigarette smoke promotes genomic evolution in the periodontal pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
P. gingivalis is an opportunistic, anaerobic, Gram-negative oral pathogen strongly implicated in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases. Clinical isolates of P. gingivalis exhibit great genetic diversity. Tobacco smoking greatly increases the risk of P.
