Shared Genetic Pathways Linking Oral Diseases to Gastrointestinal Disorders: An Integrative Multi‐Omics Study

open access: yesiMetaMed, EarlyView.
Shared genetics pathways connect oral diseases and gut disorders. ABSTRACT Oral diseases are highly prevalent and increasingly recognized as contributors to gastrointestinal disorders. Despite clinical observations of oral–gut comorbidity, the underlying genetic architecture and causal mechanisms remain poorly understood.

Trans‐Cervical Ultrasound Imaging of the Adult Palatine Tonsils

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
Ultrasound imaging of the adult palatine tonsils using a trans‐cervical approach can be used to assess the tonsillar region for intratonsillar and peritonsillar abscesses. An understanding of the sonographic anatomy, technique and tonsillar pathology is required to perform and interpret imaging and inform patient management.

Identification of essential genes of the periodontal pathogen Porphyromonas gingivalis

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2012
BackgroundPorphyromonas gingivalis is a Gram-negative anaerobic bacterium associated with periodontal disease onset and progression. Genetic tools for the manipulation of bacterial genomes allow for in-depth mechanistic studies of metabolism, physiology,

Transcriptional Profiling of Bone Marrow Stromal Cells in Response to Porphyromonas gingivalis Secreted Products [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Periodontitis is an infectious inflammatory disease that destroys the tooth-supporting (periodontal) tissues. Porphyromonas gingivalis is an oral pathogen highly implicated in the pathogenesis of this disease.

Peri‐implant disease pathogenesis animal models: Consensus report of Workgroup 1 of the IADR Implantology Research Group Best Evidence Consensus Symposium on Peri‐Implant Disease and Its Treatment

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The pathogenesis and etiology of peri‐implantitis demand a deeper understanding to lead to successful treatment modalities. Animal models of peri‐implantitis pathogenesis offer unique insights but their translational impact requires consideration of implant biomaterials science.

Dasatinib and quercetin prevent alveolar bone loss in aged mice

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Recent findings have associated alveolar bone loss (ABL) with the presence of senescent cells. Aging and the accumulation of senescent cells are associated with a pro‐inflammatory environment which may exacerbate tissue damage.

Effects of highly leukotoxic Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans associated with ligature-induced periodontitis on oral and gut tissues in male rats [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Oral Science
Objective To evaluate the effects of gastric administration of the highly leukotoxic Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans JP2 strain (Aa JP2), with or without ligature-induced periodontitis, on periodontal and small intestinal tissues in a rat model ...

Betaine‐, xylitol‐, and extra virgin olive oil–based toothpaste modulates inflammation and oral nitric oxide pathway: Clinical trial in gingivitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Gingivitis is a prevalent and reversible inflammatory condition driven by microbial dysbiosis. Beyond plaque control, interest has grown in oral hygiene formulations capable of modulating inflammation while preserving key microbial functions. Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), together with xylitol and betaine, has demonstrated clinical
