Laparoscopically guided transversus abdominis plane block versus local wound infiltration analgesia in laparoscopic surgery for peritoneal endometriosis: A prospective randomized controlled double‐blinded LTAP‐trial

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
No statistically significant difference in the mean or median opioid consumption between laparoscopically guided transversus abdominis plane block (LTAP) and local wound infiltration analgesia (LWI) (control) analgesia for laparoscopic peritoneal endometriosis surgery.

Outcomes in Patients Requiring VENO‐Venous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation After Cardiac Surgery: An Analysis From the PELS‐1 Study

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
We report an insight from the PELS‐1– a multicentre, international registry focusing on postocardiotomy extracorporeal support use between 2000 and 2020. We focused on 24/2163 (1.1%) patients requiring V‐V ECMO after cardiac surgery. Mortality was high, with 21.7% of patients discharged alive and an overall 1‐year survival probability of 12.5 ...

Venous Response to Tourniquet Pressure in Children: Implications for Peripheral Intravenous Access

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To investigate the impact of different tourniquet pressures and application durations on venous diameter and compliance in children, in order to optimise conditions for peripheral intravenous catheter insertion. Methods This non‐randomised clinical study included 21 healthy children aged 6–10 years.

Cancer pain: current practice and emerging targets

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Cancer pain (CP) arises from a complex interplay between the tumour and its microenvironment. Many patients experience a mixed pain phenotype that encompasses nociceptive, neuropathic and neuroinflammatory mechanisms, and vary across tumour type and disease stage. Despite decades of intensive research, the mainstay of cancer pain treatment is still non‐

Neurokinin‐1 receptor activation protects against cardiac fibrosis, inflammation and diastolic dysfunction in type 2 diabetic mice

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose The pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM)‐induced cardiomyopathy involves cardiac fibrosis that leads to diastolic dysfunction. We established that replacement of lost substance P (SP) that occurs in T2DM reduces cardiac fibrosis and decreases inflammation in T2DM mice and non‐human primates.
