Stimulation of the Peripheral Nerve and Peripheral Nerve Field

2012
Neuromodulation by stimulation is most likely active by changing the balance in excitatory and inhibitory fibers based on the theory of Melzak and Wall. Since its introduction, neuromodulation strategies have progressively been advancing into the periphery.

Peripheral nerve injuries

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1974
Abstract In the hand we should, in general, favour primary repair, but this should only be done if the state of the wound and of the nerve allows, and if the necessary surgical skill is available and the technical surroundings favourable.

Ultrasonography of peripheral nerves.

Journal of the peripheral nervous system : JPNS, 1996
During sonographic examination of the extremities using high frequency "small-parts" equipment, peripheral nerves may be identified in virtually all patients. Peripheral nerves have a typical ultrasonographic pattern that correlates well with histologic structure and facilitates differentiation between nerves and tendons.

Peripheral nerve repair

International Rehabilitation Medicine, 1981
The neuron is remarkable as a cell with a prolonged process, the axon. Various substances and organelles are transported up and down the axon. Axotomy profoundly affects this axonal transport. The proximal stump of the axon seals off and organelles accumulate. Terminal sprouts appear and move towards the distal stump.

Peripheral nerve regeneration

Neuroscience Research, 1996
Peripheral nerve regeneration comprises the formation of axonal sprouts, their outgrowth as regenerating axons and the reinnervation of original targets. This review focuses on the morphological features of axonal sprouts at the node of Ranvier and their subsequent outgrowth guided by Schwann cells or by Schwann cell basal laminae.

Peripheral Nerve

2016
Peripheral nerve is an important and historical part of neurosurgery. It also has been a major focus of both the written and oral examinations administered by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons (ABNS). The Oral Board candidate must be prepared for potentially one to several questions on some of the common disorders of the peripheral nervous ...

The Peripheral Nerves

2019
Peripheral nerves consist of bundles of nerve fibers organized into several nerve fasciculi. Peripheral nerves consist of bundles of nerve fibers surrounded by connective tissue. The bundles of nerve fibers can be both myelinated and unmyelinated. Unmyelinated fibers, termed fibers of Remak, consist of axons directly enveloped by the Schwann cell ...

MRI of Peripheral Nerves

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 2008
MRI has become the modality of choice for imaging the peripheral nervous system. When technically optimized and customized for individual clinical problems, MRI can provide insight into the underlying causes of neoplastic, inflammatory, and other diseases affecting peripheral nerves with a high degree of accuracy and effectively distinguish benign from

Peripheral nerve disorders

Primary Care: Clinics in Office Practice, 2004
Neuropathy may be classified clinically, electrodiagnostically, and histopathologically. The duration of symptoms may be acute (\3 weeks), subacute (3 weeks–3 months), or chronic (>3 months). The distribution of neuropathic involvement may be proximal, distal, or multifocal.

Peripheral Nerve Abnormalities

Ultrasound Clinics, 2007
As experience is gained, ultrasound (US) continues to identify an increasing number of nerves and related pathologic conditions. High-resolution US provides cost-effective, accurate morphologic information regarding a variety of nerve abnormalities including inherited disorders and developmental anomalies, nerve involvement in medical diseases ...
