Population densities of Hylobates agilis in forests with different disturbance histories in Ulu Muda Forest Reserve, Malaysia. [PDF]
We estimated group density of agile gibbons (Hylobates agilis) in Ulu Muda Forest Reserve, Malaysia at 4.03 ± 0.14 groups km−2, with an estimated total of 2927 ± 102 groups in areas below 450 m a.s.l. Group density did not differ significantly among habitat types.

Logged forests can provide an important refuge for many common bat species in Southeast Asia, but do not capture the full breadth of forest‐specialist species. Nevertheless, logged forests provide substantially better habitat for bats than tree plantations.

Tropical peatlands in Indonesia have been drained to allow farmer access and improve farm yields, but we found no trade‐offs between drainage depth, yields and bird diversity on smallholder oil palm farms in our study landscape within the studied range of drainage depths.

Abstract Many studies and research that are emphasizing on intellectual property rights (IPR) tend to be focused on standardized products in established markets. This study comes from one fundamental inquiry; how to determine the value of IPR for creative products, in this case, the product of art such as handicraft?

Robust assessments of forest condition are critical for successful forest management, but many existing techniques are highly technical, time‐consuming, expensive, or require specialist knowledge. Here, we examined the effectiveness of the rapid (<1hr) FIA survey tool by conducting ∼ 1,000 assessments of forest condition at 16 tropical rainforest sites

Riparian buffers act as microclimatic refugia in oil palm landscapes
Widely legislated riparian buffer widths of 20–30 m each side of a river may provide drier and less humid microclimatic conditions than continuous forest. Adopting wider buffers and maintaining high vegetation quality will ensure set‐asides established for hydrological reasons bring co‐benefits for terrestrial biodiversity, both now, and in the face of

Toward improved impact evaluation of community forest management in Indonesia
Abstract Many tropical countries continue to devolve forest management to forest‐dwelling communities. The assumption is that local knowledge of forests and community engagement in forest management will attain multiple social and environmental co‐benefits, such as poverty alleviation and reduced deforestation and fires.
