Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

The influence of the share of recycled tire on the rubber mixture properties [PDF]

open access: yesHemijska Industrija, 2010
Rubber granules of different sizes were obtained by mechanical recycling of waste rubber, which can be used as a substitute for black fillers. The aim of this paper is to estimate the influence of the share of recycled rubber in the static (hardness ...

Permanent Deformation Prediction Model of Subgrade Soil under Freeze-Thaw Cycles Based on LSTM and Transformer

open access: yesZhongwai Gonglu
To accurately predict the permanent deformation of subgrade soil under the coupling effect of freeze-thaw cycles and traffic loads, a hybrid neural network model based on long short-term memory (LSTM) and Transformer was proposed, building upon the ...

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

Eigenvalue-based determinants for scalar products and form factors in Richardson-Gaudin integrable models coupled to a bosonic mode [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Starting from integrable $su(2)$ (quasi-)spin Richardson-Gaudin XXZ models we derive several properties of integrable spin models coupled to a bosonic mode.

Hybrid Auxetic Architectures: Integrating Curvature‐Driven Design for Enhanced Mechanical Tunability and Structural Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Curvature‐tuned auxetic lattices are designed, fabricated, and mechanically characterized to reveal how geometric curvature governs stretchability, stress redistribution, and Poisson's ratio evolution. Photoelastic experiments visualize stress pathways, while hyperelastic simulations quantify deformation mechanics.

Transient deformations in the Suez-Sinai area from GPS observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We analyze data from four GPS campaigns carried out between 1997 and 2002 on a network of 11 sites in the Suez-Sinai, the area of collision between the African and the Arabian plates.

Force relaxation and permanent deformation of erythrocyte membrane

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1983
Force relaxation and permanent deformation processes in erythrocyte membrane were investigated with two techniques: micropipette aspiration of a portion of a flaccid cell, and extension of a whole cell between two micropipettes. In both experiments, at surface extension ratios less than 3:1, the extent of residual membrane deformation is negligible ...
