Three-Dimensional Modelling and Validation for the Ultra-High-Speed EDS Rocket Sled with PM Halbach Array

open access: yesActuators
The ultra-high-speed rocket sled plays an important role in the ground test by simulating altitude flight. Rocket sleds can only be lifted for a short time with thermally uninsulated superconductors moving among an eddy-current-induced copper array.

A Novel Overlapped Compensation Structure and Its Effectiveness Verification for Expansion Joints in Plate-Type PMEDS Vehicles

open access: yesActuators
In the plate-type permanent magnet electrodynamic suspension (PMEDS) vehicle, expansion joints in discrete conductive plates trigger the eddy current truncation effect, thereby causing an attenuation in the levitation force.

Impact of the Magnet Span on the Forces of Electrodynamic Suspensions with an Alternate Permanent Magnet Arrangement

open access: yes2022 25th International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS), 2022
Permanent magnet (PM) electrodynamic suspensions offer a simple and robust solution to assure the magnetic levitation of high-speed transportation systems. Halbach arrays (HAs), which are the PM magnetic field sources with the best performance, are more complex to implement than alternate poles configurations.

MODELLING AND ANALYSIS OF PERMANENT MAGNET ELECTRODYNAMIC SUSPENSION SYSTEMS [PDF]

open access: yesProgress In Electromagnetics Research M, 2014
In this paper, an analytical model of permanent magnet electrodynamic suspension systems (PEDSs) is proposed. Horizontal and vertical magnetic flelds of a permanent magnet (PM) are efiectively approximated by sinusoidal functions. By this means, closed form solutions are obtained for lift and drag forces of PEDSs for the flrst time.

Pole Pitch Optimization of Permanent Magnet Electrodynamic Suspensions in High-Speed Transportation Systems

open access: yes2022 IEEE Vehicle Power and Propulsion Conference (VPPC), 2022
Permanent magnet electrodynamic suspensions are good candidates to enable ground transportation systems to reach very high speeds. In these suspensions, the pole pitch of the permanent magnet field source has a significant influence on their performance. This article, therefore, studies qualitatively the impact of performance criteria, whether partial,

Summary of a Bearingless Motor with Passive Electrodynamic Axial Suspension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Either active control or passive stabilization can be used to achieve non-contact magnetic sus-pension in magnetic bearings and bearingless motors. As the rotational speed is increased, the d-axis current becomes harder to regulate, thus motivating the ...

Developments on Electrodynamic Levitation of Rotors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Magnetic bearings are systems capable of supporting rotors in absence of mechanical contact. Among many advantages with respect to ball and roller bearings are the possibilities of operating at extremely high rotational speeds and free of maintenance ...

Interaction Between Vortex‐Induced Vibrations and Base Vibrations in Piezoelectric Harvesters

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the present era, powering sensors using green energy is a significant challenge. One promising solution for the power supply of small sensors relies on piezoelectric energy harvesters excited by vortex‐induced vibrations (VIVs) generated by wind.
