Techniques for membrane permeabilization

Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1985
Abstract Techniques for cell permeabilization and control of cytosol composition include high-voltage electric discharge and the use of Sendai virus, which can both give long-term permeability to cell membranes, and application of ATP to susceptible cells, which allows controlled resealing.

Permeabilization of Drosophila eggs

Developmental Biology, 1973
Abstract Vitelline membrane of Drosophila eggs were permeabilized by a brief immersion in octane. The treatment made the eggs very sensitive to desiccation and to the tonicity and the composition of the incubation medium. Permeabilized eggs were able to absorb cytological stains, metabolites, alkaloids, and antibiotics.

Mitochondrial Outer Membrane Permeabilization and Inner Membrane Permeabilization in Regulating Apoptosis and Inflammation

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2023
Recent studies delineate an intimate crosstalk between apoptosis and inflammation. However, the dynamic mechanism linking them by mitochondrial membrane permeabilization remains elusive. Here, we construct a mathematical model consisting of four functional modules. Bifurcation analysis reveals that bistability stems from Bcl-2 family member interaction

Bioconversions in Permeabilized Cells

2021
Whole cells made permeable by chemical or physical treatment allow the conversion of substrates to useful, expensive products. Permeabilized cells are useful if substrate or product or both cannot enter the cell. As many commercially interesting bioconversions require cofactor-dependent enzymes, regeneration of expensive cofactors is necessary. This is

Permeabilization of Cell Membranes

2009
In order to detect intracellular antigens, cells must first be permeabilized especially after fixation with cross-linking agents such as formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. Permeabilization provides access to intracellular or intraorganellar antigens. Two general types of reagents are commonly used: organic solvents, such as methanol and acetone, and ...

Cell Permeabilization

1990
Abstract For many years investigations of cell regulation, and in particular stimulus—response coupling, were limited to studies of intact, viable cells. Details of intracellular mechanisms remained obscure until it was discovered that permeabilized cells, in which the cytosol is directly accessible from the exterior, retain specialized ...
