Unconventional Extraction Methods of Oleaginous Yeast Cell Pretreatment and Disruption

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Extraction is one of the most commonly used methods for obtaining and purifying chemical compounds for commercial usage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of unconventional permeabilization and cell disruption methods on the yield of lipid

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Biomembranes permeabilization by application of polycationic peptides and electric pulses

open access: yes, 2020
Amphipathic polycationic peptides represent the Antimicrobial system of humans, animals and plants, their ability to permeabilize, in a potential way, the pathogenic microorganisms of plasma membrane is peculiar.

Controlled permeabilization of Escherichia coli outer membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
In this thesis attention is focused on the permeabilization of the outer membrane of Escherichia coli. In chapter 2 a new procedure is presented which enables the transfer of macromolecules (e.g.

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...

Membrane permeabilization by Islet Amyloid Polypeptide

open access: yes, 2009
Membrane permeabilization by Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP) is suggested to be the main mechanism for IAPP-induced cytotoxicity and death of insulin-producing -cells in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Extracellular ATP in the lymphohematopoietic system: P2Z purinoceptors and membrane permeabilization

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 1998
The effects of extracellular nucleosides and nucleotides on many organs and systems have been recognized for almost 50 years. The effects of extracellular ATP (ATPo), UTPo, ADPo, and other agonists are mediated by P2 purinoceptors.

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.
