A Compact CSRR-Based Sensor for Characterization of the Complex Permittivity of Dielectric Materials

open access: yesElectronics (Switzerland), 2022
A sensor is proposed to characterize the complex permittivity of dielectric materials in a non-destructive and non-invasive way. The proposed sensor is based on a rectangular patch microstrip two-port circuit with a complementary split-ring resonator ...

Complex permittivity and moisture measurements of oil palm fruits using an open-ended coaxial sensor [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Sensors Journal, 2005
An open-ended coaxial sensor for the determination of complex permittivity and moisture content of oil palm fruits is presented in this paper. The measurement system consisting of the sensor and a PC-controlled vector network analyzer have been tested ...

Submersible Printed Split-Ring Resonator-Based Sensor for Thin-Film Detection and Permittivity Characterization [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Sensors Journal, 2016
A split-ring resonator (SRR)-based sensor for the detection of solid thickness and relative permittivity characterization of solid and liquid materials is proposed. The structure is composed of two SRRs hosted in a microstrip transmission line.

Analysis of tunable Bleustein–Gulyaev permittivity sensors

Journal of Applied Physics, 2021
We present a novel electric permittivity sensor based on Bleustein–Gulyaev (BG) waves. Toward that end, we formulate the nonlinear electromechanical partial differential equations governing a BG wave resonator. We find that the permittivity of the material-under-test changes the sensor natural frequencies, thereby enabling the implementation of a ...

Snow Microwave Complex Permittivity Measured with Resonator Sensors

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
Microwave coaxial resonator sensors are used to retrieve snow complex dielectric permittivity ${\varepsilon _{\text{S}}} = \varepsilon _{\text{S}}^{\prime}{\text{i}} \cdot \varepsilon _{\text{S}}^{\prime\prime}$ from sensors frequency response. In addition to the conventional analytical approach, electromagnetic simulation software HFSS is used to ...

Tunable Bleustein–Gulyaev Permittivity Sensors

2020
We present a novel electric permittivity sensor based on Bleustein–Gulyaev (BG) waves. We also demonstrate a mechanism by which biasing can be used to modulate the sensitivity of permittivity sensors to match different electric permittivity ranges. We formulate the nonlinear electromechanical differential equations governing the dynamics of BG waves ...

Sensitivity Analysis of Microwave Sensors for the Permittivity Measurement of Liquids

2009 German Microwave Conference, 2009
This paper presents an advanced microwave sensor for the complex permittivity measurement of liquids. By means of a rigorous mode matching technique, the sensitivity of the microwave sensor is analyzed and its structure is successfully optimized for the use at low frequencies.

Permittivity measurements in nanostructured TiO2 gas sensors

physica status solidi (a), 2010
AbstractResistance and capacitance measurements, as a function of frequency, were carried out to analyze and model the electrical behavior of undoped titanium dioxide (TiO2) films. The sensing measurements were carried out in a chamber with independent temperature, pressure, gas composition, and flow rate control.

Sensor for measuring the permittivity of a medium in closed systems

Measurement Techniques, 1996
A sensor based on a two-mode transmission line for measuring the permittivity of a medium in closed systems is considered. Because of the different spatial structures (topologies) of the waves, a phase method of measuring the relative permittivity of the medium is obtained. A block diagram of the measuring system with the sensor is described.
