A metamaterial based microfluidic sensor for permittivity detection of liquid

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2022
Abstract The electromagnetic (EM) behavior of a microwave sensor has specific relationship with the physical properties of the materials to be detected, e.g. the concentration of solution and the permittivity of gas. The microwave sensor can detect changes of EM response in real time, and obtain the material properties with low sample ...

Highly accurate metamaterial sensor for measurement of permittivity of nanoscale materials

2020 International Conference on UK-China Emerging Technologies (UCET), 2020
Highly accurate metamaterial sensor for the measurement of permittivity of the nanoscale materials is proposed. The proposed sensor is designed and simulated on low cost substrate FR4 on using ANSYS HFSS simulation software. Two complementary split rectangular resonators (CSRRs) are etched in the ground plane of the sensor in a view to be provided with

Miniaturized SIW sensor for liquid permittivity measurements

2017 Sensors Networks Smart and Emerging Technologies (SENSET), 2017
In this paper a miniaturized Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) liquids sensor is presented. Half-Mode (HM) miniaturization technique is applied on the SIW resonator cavity. Sensor area is reduced by 50% in comparison to the conventional resonator. The complex permittivity is calculated using artificial neural network.

Design of a microstrip patch sensor antenna for the measurement of permittivity

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021
Abstract This paper presents a new high gain Microstrip Patch Sensor Antenna for the measurement of permittivity. The proposed antenna uses a copper (annealed) patch imposed over the FR-4 substrate. Here several thin rectangular slots are loaded along the radiation side and two circular slots in the mid of the patch.

Open-ended coplanar waveguide sensor for dielectric permittivity measurement

2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2018
A novel open-ended coplanar waveguide (CPW) sensor for dielectric permittivity measurement is presented in this paper. The open-ended CPW with flange is designed and fabricated on FR4 substrate. The admittance model that includes the radiation effect was used to describe the open-ended CPW sensor.

Effective permittivity measurement with the use of coupled-line section sensor

2016 IEEE Radio and Wireless Symposium (RWS), 2016
In this paper, a new method for measurement of effective permittivity in microwave range with the use of coupled-line section sensor is presented. In the proposed technique, a differential measurement is performed to obtain high sensitivity on the covering sample, which can be as small as the distance between sensor s coupled strips.

Permittivity sensor based on 60 GHz patch antenna

2015 German Microwave Conference, 2015
In this paper, a sensor based on a 60 GHz rectangular patch antenna is presented, for characterising materials based on the permittivity variation in the reactive near-field. The resonant frequency of the patch antenna is a function of the dielectric ambient around it.

Permittivity measurement of wood based on an uniplanar capacitance sensor

The 2010 IEEE International Conference on Information and Automation, 2010
An uniplanar capacitance sensor is a core device of high-precision instrument applied to measure wood moisture content, permittivity, etc. In nature, it is a special case of a capacitance sensor of unspecific form. This paper describes the numerical solution to a mathematical model of uniplanar capacitance sensor.

A planar resonant sensor for the complex permittivity characterization of materials

2002 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest (Cat. No.02CH37278), 2003
A microwave planar resonant sensor for the measurement of the complex permittivity in compact areas and thin layers of the material under test (MUT) is presented. Compared to transmission or reflection sensors, the adoption of a scalar 2-port measurement procedure reduces the cost of the system and improves its robustness.

Microstrip patch sensor for measurement of the permittivity of homogeneous dielectric materials

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2000
An application of a small air-spaced coaxially fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna as a sensor for permittivity measurement is presented. The models used for the calculation of the permittivity from the shift in the resonant frequency for solid and liquid materials are described.
