Evaluation of oxidative status in iron deficiency anemia through total antioxidant capacity measured using an automated method

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Hematology, 2011
Objective: Oxidative stress, an increase in oxidants and/or a decrease in antioxidant capacity, is one of the potential biochemical mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of iron deficiency anemia.

Free Radical Scavenging Capacities and Alleviating Actions of Polysaccharides Extract of Termitomyces le-testui on Methylprednisolone-Induced Immunodepression in Rats

open access: yesAdvances in Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2021
Background. Natural products have been said to show immunomodulatory and antioxidant activities. The research study was aimed to assess the immunomodulatory and free radical scavenging activities of crude polysaccharide from dry mushroom fruiting bodies ...

Production of bioethanol from multiple waste streams of rice milling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This work describes the feasibility of using rice milling by-products as feedstock for bioethanol. Starch-rich residues (rice bran, broken, unripe and discolored rice) were individually fermented (20% w/v) through Consolidated Bioprocessing by two ...

Peroxidative Index: A New Marker in Kidney Toxicity Induced by Mercury

open access: yes, 2017
Oxidative stress is an important molecular mechanism for kidney injury in mercury (Hg) poisoning. Usually, oxidative stress was measured by measuring the levels reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant enzymatic activity. In this present study, we proposed a new marker for oxidative stress in kidney toxicity induced by Hg.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Oxidative stress in hepatitis C infected end-stage renal disease subjects

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2006
Background Both uremia and hepatitis C infection is associated with increased oxidative stress. In the present study, we aimed to find out whether hepatitis C infection has any impact on oxidative stress in hemodialysis subjects.

Catalase-Containing Silica Particles as Ultrasound-Based Hydrogen Peroxide Sensors to Determine Infected From Noninfected Fluid Collections in Humans. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
OBJECTIVE. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) plays a key role in neutrophil oxidative defense against infection. Catalase-containing silica nanoshells are nanoparticles that generate O2 microbubbles imaged with ultrasound in the presence of elevated H2O2.

Comprehensive lipid tetrad index, atherogenic index and lipid peroxidation: Surrogate markers for increased cardiovascular risk in psoriasis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology, 2015
Recently, the concept of "psoriatic march" has come to the fore, in which chronic cutaneous inflammation in psoriasis leads to systemic inflammation which, in conjunction with increased oxidative stress, triggers a cascade of events resulting in increased cardiovascular risk in patients with severe psoriasis.
