A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Item-Level Psychometrics for the Functional Gait Assessment in Persons With Stroke

open access: yesArchives of Rehabilitation Research and Clinical Translation
Objective: To determine the item-level psychometrics of the Functional Gait Assessment (FGA) for persons with chronic stroke and create a keyform (or score sheet) for clinicians. Design: Retrospective cohort.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Dionysius the Areopagite’s Divinizing Hierarchy

open access: yes, 2017
This chapter explores the theological development of the term “hierarchy” by Dionysius the Areopagite. For Dionysius the concept of hierarchy predominantly functions as a theological signifier for the communication of divinity among humanity.

Person-Number Morpheme ordering

open access: yes, 2023
The idea that universal representations of hierarchical structure constrain patterns of linear order is a central to many linguistic theories. In this paper we use Artificial Language Learning techniques to experimentally probe this claim.

When "You" and "I" mess around with the hierarchy: a comparative study of Tupi-Guarani hierarchical indexing systems

open access: yesBoletim do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. Ciências Humanas
: This paper deals with the person indexing system of Tupi-Guarani languages. Past literature has claimed that the relative position of the arguments of a transitive verb on a supposed person hierarchy 1 > 2 > 3 determines what argument is marked on the ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Aging Is a Key Driver for Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a classical age‐related hematologic malignancy, and a key driver of AML is aging, which profoundly regulates intrinsic factors such as genomic instability, epigenetic reprogramming, and metabolic dysregulation, and alters bone marrow microenvironment.

Levels of abstraction in human supervisory control teams

open access: yes, 2006
This paper aims to report a study into the levels of abstraction hierarchy (LOAH) in two energy distribution teams. The original proposition for the LOAH was that it depicted five levels of system representation, working from functional purpose through ...
