Persulfate Hair Bleach Reactions
Archives of Dermatology, 1976† Ammonium persulfate is widely used to "boost" peroxide hair bleaches. These persulfates can produce a variety of cutaneous and respiratory responses, including allergic eczematous contact dermatitis, irritant dermatitis, localized edema, generalized urticaria, rhinitis, asthma, and syncope.

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1942
The photochemical efficiency, φ, for the decomposition of persulfate by light of λ254 mμ is determined by comparison with φ for the uranyl oxalate actinometer. The persulfate content was followed by the method of Kurtenacker and Kubina and in representative cases the hydrogen ion produced also was determined.

Mechanism of Persulfate Activation by Phenols
Environmental Science & Technology, 2013The activation of persulfate by phenols was investigated to further the understanding of persulfate chemistry for in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO). Phenol (pKa = 10.0) activated persulfate at pH 12 but not at pH 8, suggesting activation occurred only via the phenoxide form.

Mechanism of Base Activation of Persulfate
Environmental Science & Technology, 2010Base is the most commonly used activator of persulfate for the treatment of contaminated groundwater by in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO). A mechanism for the base activation of persulfate is proposed involving the base-catalyzed hydrolysis of persulfate to hydroperoxide anion and sulfate followed by the reduction of another persulfate molecule by ...

Dual anticoagulant/antiplatelet persulfated small molecules
European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2011A new series of persulfated compounds was synthesized and assayed for in vitro anticoagulant and antiplatelet activities, which may be useful in the treatment of both venous and arterial thrombosis. Persulfation of polyphenolic components of wine, coumarins and other structurally diverse small molecules was achieved with triethylamine-sulphur trioxide ...

[Persulfate asthma in hairdressers].
Pneumologie (Stuttgart, Germany), 1989At the a two-year apprenticeship, a young female hairdresser developed rhinoconjunctivitis and bronchial asthma, induced by a hair bleach containing the substance persulphate. On each occasion, her symptoms occurred in the form of an immediate reaction. The causative role of the bleach was demonstrated with the aid of an inhalation challenge test.

Persulfate Degradation of Wool
Textile Research Journal, 1965Degradation and discoloration of wool by persulfate in aqueous solution are greater at pH 1.6 than at pH 4.6. The main damage is believed to be due to attack by hy droxyl-free radicals resulting from decomposition of persulfate, since little damage can be attributed to hydrolytic action.

Research progress of persulfate activation technology
Environmental Science and Pollution ResearchPersulfate-based advanced oxidation processes (PS-AOPs) have been widely investigated by academia and industry due to their high efficiency and selectivity for the removal of trace organic pollutants from complex water substrates. PS-AOPs have been extensively studied for the degradation of pesticides, drugs, halogen compounds, dyes, and other ...
