Reduced IgG titers against pertussis in rheumatoid arthritis: Evidence for a citrulline-biased immune response and medication effects.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
BackgroundThe antibody response to pertussis vaccination in rheumatoid arthritis is unknown, a concerning omission given the relatively low efficacy of the pertussis vaccine, a rise in pertussis infections, and a general increased susceptibility to ...

The evolution of pertactin expression in Belgian circulating B. pertussis strains, pre- and post-COVID-19

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bordetella pertussis strains not producing pertactin were globally increasing, especially in countries using the acellular pertussis vaccine. Subsequently, during the pandemic, global pertussis incidence dropped to extreme

Long Lasting Antibodies From Convalescent Pertussis Patients Induce ROS Production and Bacterial Killing by Human Neutrophils

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2022
Pertussis is a respiratory infection caused by the Gram-negative bacterium Bordetella pertussis. Despite high vaccination coverage this disease remains a public health concern worldwide.

Pertussis in Poland [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Epidemiology, 2004
Since 1997, an unexpected 2-5-fold increase in the incidence of pertussis has been reported in Poland in comparison with the previous 10 years, although the introduction of the diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP) vaccination in 1960 reduced the incidence of pertussis approximately 100-fold in the 1980s.

Bordetella pertussis Strains with Increased Toxin Production Associated with Pertussis Resurgence

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2009
Before childhood vaccination was introduced in the 1940s, pertussis was a major cause of infant death worldwide. Widespread vaccination of children succeeded in reducing illness and death.

Detection of Protein–Protein Interactions in Escherichia coli With Single Molecule Sensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This article describes a regulatory circuit in Escherichia coli able to detect protein–protein interactions with exquisite sensitivity. The interaction between two hybrid proteins fused to Bordetella pertussis adenylate cyclase and its activator calmodulin triggers a potent cyclic AMP signaling cascade.

PERTUSSIS

open access: yesMedicine, 1975
Pertussis as an infectious disease exhibits a number of unusual features, both with respect to its epidemiology and to the interaction of the bacteia with the infected host. Evidence that a virus may in some cases be the etiology of the syndrome has been reviewed and seems to be have been established in certain instances.

Bordetella pertussisand Pertussis Vaccines [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Infectious Diseases, 2009
Bordetella pertussis is a human-specific pathogen that causes whooping cough. The use of pertussis whole-cell vaccines in infants and toddlers led to decreased circulation of the bacterium in the child population and a marked decrease in the incidence of the disease. However, vaccine does not result in life-long immunity; indeed, the circulation of the
