Toward Fully Biobased Polyesters With Spiroacetal Units: Synthesis and Enzymatic Depolymerization

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 5, May 2026.
A biobased spiroacetal‐containing dicarboxylate monomer derived from vanillin is developed as a sustainable alternative to dimethyl terephthalate. Copolyesters with tunable compositions are prepared, showing enhanced glass transition temperature, mechanical properties, and oxygen barrier performance.

3D printed cartridges for the removal of pharmaceuticals from water

open access: yesTalanta Open
The entry of pharmaceuticals into water is a key worldwide concern, with drugs being identified in all near-aqueous ecologies at often worrying concentrations. Pharmaceutical waste in environmental water has been shown to affect environmental equilibrium

Comparative Analysis of Surface Roughness and Geometric Tolerances in Material Extrusion: CPE versus TPU

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 5, May 2026.
This work presents the first systematic comparison of dimensional tolerances and surface roughness in CPE and TPU parts fabricated by Material Extrusion. A shared DOE framework reveals a strong linear link between layer height and Ra roughness, highlights wall‐count impacts on geometric accuracy, and uncovers TPU's higher sensitivity to infill ...

The influence of the raster angle on the dimensional accuracy of FDM-printed PLA, PETG, and ABS tensile specimens

open access: yesEuropean Mechanical Science
3D printing is a rapidly advancing method in digital manufacturing techniques and produces objects in layers. Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is a 3D printing technology where the material is melted in a hot nozzle and then placed on a build platform to

Self‐Texturing Scratch‐Resistant and Bacteria‐Repellent Superhydrophobic Polypropylene Surfaces Through Extrusion‐Based Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 311, Issue 5, May 2026.
One‐step 3D printing combined with in‐situ self‐assembly of behenic acid creates hierarchical polypropylene surfaces with micro‐ and nanostructures. The resulting material exhibits superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of 163 (±2)°, self‐healing, and high scratch resistance, while reducing initial bacterial adhesion by 87%. ABSTRACT Superhydrophobic

Experimental and ANN Modeling of Mechanical Properties and Surface Quality in Multi‐Material FDM Printing: Effects of Retraction Parameters

open access: yesPolymers for Advanced Technologies, Volume 37, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT In fused deposition modeling (FDM), retraction related parameters are usually adjusted to reduce stringing and oozing; however, their combined effects on mechanical performance and surface quality, particularly in multi‐material printing, remain insufficiently quantified.
