CRYSTAL PLASTICITY OF PENTAERYTHRITOL TETRANITRATE (PETN)

We investigate the crystal plasticity and shock response of single crystal and polycrystalline pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) using mesoscale finite element simulations. The model includes the Mie-Grüneisen Equation of State and a single crystal plasticity model.

PETN wurde von Vignon und Gerin 1901 synthetisiert und zusammen mit TNT als Sprengstoff genutzt [31]. Fur die therapeutische Anwendung als Nitrokorper wird es mit Lactose verrieben, so das gefahrvolle Explosionen vermieden wurden. PETN wurde in den 50er und 60er Jahren in den skandinavischen Landern, in Frankreich und in den USA genutzt.
